    • The invention relates to a grommet having an axis and configured to contain a wire harness and insertable into a through-hole formed in a vehicle panel. The grommet includes a tubular portion and a funnel-shaped portion, the latter including, sequentially from the tubular portion, a narrowed end section, a frusto-conical wall with external and internal faces, and an enlarged end section that includes an external face provided with a circular groove portion. The circular groove portion forms a circular ridgeline at a position nearest to the tubular portion. The frusto-conical wall includes a thin wall section having a substantially uniform thickness and extending from the narrowed end section up to a position about half way position along the axis in the frusto-conical wall, and a thick wall section having a substantially uniform internal radius and extending from the about half way position to and through the enlarged end section along the axis. The external face of the frusto-conical wall includes a plurality of shallow recesses which are arranged at given intervals therebetween around the circular direction and which extend from the narrowed end section towards the circular ridgeline, the shallow recesses leading to deep recesses near the circular ridgeline, whereby protrusions are formed adjacent to the shallow and deep recesses.

    • A wire protection grommet is constructed for installation in a wire pull opening extending between a preset and the cell of a cellular raceway. The grommet includes a central opening extending between the preset and the raceway cell and which has defines a wire pull strain relief. The grommet is constructed to lockingly engage into the wire pull opening so that it is not displaced during use. The distal end of the grommet is weighted so that the grommet self-orients itself in the opening during installation. The grommet also includes a wire storage section around which excess wiring can be wrapped. Hooks are provided for retaining the excess wire on the wire storage section.

    • The present invention is directed to a grommet that engages around an outer periphery of a wire harness and is inserted into a through hole of the automobile body. The grommet is provided with a generally cylindrical portion that tightly engages a wire of the wire harness and a generally conical portion extending from one end of the cylindrical portion. A thickened portion is provided around the conical portion in an enlarged end. A recess configured to be engaged with the automobile body is provided on an outer peripheral surface of the thickened portion. One side wall of the recess in the enlarged end extends outwardly and has a lip projecting from a tip of the extended side wall. A bottom surface of the recess has either a curved portion or an inclined portion so that an edge of the through hole of the automobile body panel is forcefully pressed into and distorts the curved or inclined portion. Another side wall, which faces toward the lip-side side wall (extending side wall), is configured to approach the lip-side side wall along a direction from the bottom surface to an opening end of the recess. The automobile body panel, which is engaged with the inner surface of the recess, contacts the grommet at the curved portion or the inclined portion of the recess, as well as the side wall and the lip. Thus, plural sealing points are provided between the grommet and an automobile body panel, thus, waterproofness is improved.

    • A flexible, open-ended conduit for an electrical harness. The conduit has a central tubular section and a grommet at each end. The grommets are each of a size and shape to fit in a panel opening of similar size and shape. One of the panel openings is non-circular and the corresponding non-circular grommet has to be turned to fit in the opening. Turning the grommet causes the conduit to twist. To prevent kinking or buckling of the conduit due to twisting, the conduit has a screw-like helical formation. Instead of kinking or buckling, the conduit when twisted merely elongates or contracts.

    • In order to waterproof a plurality of wires which constitute a wire harness passed through a through hole formed in a grommet, a lower mold is provided with a first recessed portion, and an upper mold is provided with a second recessed portion. The first recessed portion and the second recessed portion define a cavity when the upper mold and the lower mold are integrated, such that a cross section of the cavity is substantially identical with a cross section of the through hole formed in the grommet. The wires are placed on the first recessed portion of the lower mold. Then, the wires are coated with a water stop agent. Further, the wires are applied with vibration so as to permeate the water stop agent into a gap between the wires. The upper mold and the lower mold are integrated such that a cross section of the wire harness is matched with a cross section of the cavity. The water stop agent permeated into the wires is solidified.
