    • Illumination apparatus and networks of the same including a number of different embodiments. In one embodiment, the illumination apparatus comprises a plurality of LEDs including at least two different colors; a switching device, interposed between the LEDs and a common potential reference, including at least two switches corresponding to current paths of the two different color LEDs; a controller that opens and closes the switches according to a predetermined duty cycle; and a hand-held housing with a compartment for containing a power source and the common reference potential, as well as a lens assembly for reflecting light from the LEDs. Another embodiment is directed to a lighting network including a controller and a plurality of uniquely-addressable illumination units, each including two different color LEDs. Each illumination unit includes a network interface that receives from the controller data comprising LED intensity values, a memory that stores the intensity values, a controller that generates pulse width modulated signals having duty cycles corresponding to the intensity values and a switch that directs current to the LEDs based on the pulse width modulated signals.

    • A light emitting device for optic fiber decoration, includes a flash control IC, a plurality of different colored LED's, a variable resistor and a light-sensitive resistor, driven by 4.5V DC voltage to control the flash control IC, with output from the flash control IC controlling each LED to alternatively and gradually change flashing lights. Each LED projects lights into optic fibers, producing romantic light changes in the optic fiber decoration. The invention can be used to replace the light-emitting device, including light bulbs, a motor, color discs and such sophisticated structures in a conventional optic fiber decoration, and provides safer use, more energy saving and higher efficiency than conventional types.

    • A dimmer arrangement for a lamp assembly including a gas discharge lamp and an inductive ballast connected to a domestic AC power supply includes a first controllable switch deployed in series with the lamp assembly so as to selectively close a circuit from the power supply through the lamp assembly and a second controllable switch deployed in parallel with the gas discharge lamp assembly so as to selectively close a circuit including the gas discharge lamp and the inductive ballast. A controller cyclically: (a) closes the first controllable switch and opens the second controllable switch, and (b) closes the second controllable switch and opens the first controllable switch. A non-linear saturating inductance connected serially with the first and second controllable switches controls the current during momentary overlap when both switches are closed.
