    • A process for preparing a photothermographic material with increased photosensitivity, the photothermographic material comprising a support and a photo-addressable thermally developable element, exclusive of a compound RnullS(M)n wherein R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon, aryl or heterocyclic group, M is a hydrogen atom, or cation, and letter n is a number determined so as to render the molecule neutral and also exclusive of a compound capable of releasing a mobile dye corresponding to or inversely corresponding to the reduction of silver halide to silver at elevated temperatures, the photo-addressable thermally developable element containing a photosensitive agent in catalytic association with a light-insensitive organic silver salt, a reducing agent for the light-insensitive organic silver salt in thermal working relationship therewith and a binder, comprising the steps of: (i) increasing the photosensitivity of a photosensitive silver halide by chemical sensitisation with a chemical sensitising merocyanine dye containing a thione group in a non-oxidative aqueous medium, optionally in the presence of the light-insensitive organic silver salt, thereby producing the photosensitive agent; (ii) coating the support with one or more aqueous solutions or dispersions together containing the light-insensitive organic silver salt, the photosensitive agent, the reducing agent and the binder; (iii) drying the coating or coatings thereby producing the photo-addressable thermally developable element.

    • Provided are a silver halide photographic emulsion containing a metal complex represented by the following formula (I): MmnullIrCln(L1)k(L2)6-n-knullnullnull(I) wherein, M represents a cation or anion, m represents an integer of 0 to 4, n represents an integer of 3 to 5, k represents an integer of 0 to 3, L1 represents a ligand selected from the group consisting of pyrroles, thiophenes, pyrazoles, isoxazoles, isothiazoles, imidazole, oxazoles, furazanes, heterocycles having at least 3 hetero atoms and ureas, L2 represents an inorganic ligand other than Cl with the proviso that when k represents 0, L2 represents none of F, Br, I, NO, H2O, CO and C2O4; and a metal complex represented by the following formula (IV): NknullnullIrX6-nnullQnnullnullnullnull(IV) wherein, N represents a counter cation; X represents a halogen ion; Q represents a compound which contains at least three atoms selected from nitrogen and sulfur atoms, and 5 or less carbon atoms, may contain another atom, and exhibits a ratio of (the number of carbon atoms)/(the total number of nitrogen atomsnulloxygen atomsnullsulfur atoms) of less than 0.5; nnull represents an integer of 1 or 2 and knull represents the number of counter cations necessary for neutralizing the charge of a complex salt.
