    • A clutch disk assembly (1) includes an input rotary member (2), an output rotary member (3), a damper mechanism (4, 5) and a large friction mechanism (13). The damper mechanism couples the input and output rotary members (2) and (3) together in a rotating direction. The damper mechanism exhibits torsion characteristics having differing first stage and second stage responses such that in the second stage a higher degree of rigidity is exhibited than in the first stage. In the second stage when small levels of vibrations are dampened, the response characteristics in response to positive direction rotary displacement between the input and output rotary members differs from the response characteristics exhibited as a result of negative direction relative rotary displacement. Specifically, in the positive direction, the large friction mechanism (13) is prevented from operating in a first angular range within the second stage. In the negative direction, the large friction mechanism (13) is prevented from operating in a second angular range in the second stage. The first and second angular ranges differ.

    • An installation device for a centrifugal clutch is disclosed. In an embodiment of the invention, the centrifugal clutch includes a clutch cover, a pressure plate for applying a clamping force against a friction plate, and at least one flyweight that moves radially outward under the effects of centrifugal force to cause the pressure plate to exert a clamping force against the friction plate. The installation device includes an installation hub moveable relative to the clutch cover between a first position, wherein the installation hub is engaged with the flyweight to force the engaged flyweight to move radially outward, and a second position, wherein the installation hub is disengaged from the flyweight. A resilient member biases the installation hub toward the second position and is selectively engaged with the clutch cover to inhibit movement of the installation hub toward the first position.

    • A wire wound flexible shaft has layers of wire wound one upon another, with a dry film of lubricant bonded to the outer surfaces of a number of the outer layers; or if desired, to the outer surfaces of all layers of the shaft. The lubricant is applied by preheating the partially completed flexible shaft to a temperature substantially above 212null F. but below the decomposition temperature of the lubricant. A liquid medium comprising a carrier and particles of the lubricant is sprayed onto the shaft surface, causing the liquid to vaporize and the lubricant particles to be deposited on the shaft. One or more successive wire layers may then be wound onto the partially completed shaft and the spraying step repeated. Thereafter the shaft is heated to cause the lubricant particles to bond to the adjacent wire layers and to reduce internal stresses in the shaft.
