    • This invention relates to a dust preventing structure of a guide unit comprising a track shaft and a sliding member engaging the track shaft via a plurality of rolling bodies such that it is capable of reciprocating in a length direction thereof. Elastic members in firm contact with the track shaft are overlaid in the length direction of the track shaft. A lubricant pocket forming member having a concave groove portion for forming a lubricant pocket constituted of the elastic members and filled with lubricant by a help of the surface of the track shaft as well is provided so as to achieve a smooth reciprocating motion of the sliding member with respect to the track shaft with less sliding friction. Particularly, under even a severe use condition in which use of coolant is required or dust, dirt, wooden pieces, cutting powder or the like falls on the guide unit, a smooth reciprocating motion of the sliding member with respect to the track shaft can be maintained in a long period.

    • A lubricant supply device is to be fitted to a nut member engaging with a screw shaft through rolling members to supply lubricant to the screw shaft along with a relative rotational motion of the nut member to the screw shaft. The device comprises an application member, a lubricant storage member and a control device. The application member for applying the lubricant on the screw shaft has at least one tongue portion, which is capable of coming into contact with at least one of rolling-member running surface of the screw shaft. The number of the at least one tongue portion is identical with or larger than the number of the rolling-member running surface. The lubricant storage member supplies the lubricant to the application member. The control device controls an amount of the lubricant supplied from the lubricant storage member to the application member.

    • A clamping mechanism comprises a first clamp half 20 and a second clamp half 22. The first clamp half 20 and the second clamp half 22 contact a linear guide rail 14 at one end thereof and a key 12 at another end thereof, with the key 12 being coupled to the moving member. A plurality of threaded shafts 40 pass through both the first clamp half 20 and the second clamp half 22 while also passing between the linear guide rail 14 and the key 12. A plurality of cooperating nuts 42, 44 are provided on each end of the threaded shafts 40 to secure the first clamp half 20, the second clamp half 22, the linear guide rail 14 and the key 12. When the user desires to alter the position of the moving member relative to the guide rail 14, the user actuates a plurality of pistons 24 located within the clamping mechanism. The actuation of the pistons 24 cause the threaded shafts 40 to “stretch” which allows the first clamp half 20 and the second clamp half 22 to separate from the linear guide rail 14 a sufficient distance to allow the user to alter the position of the moving member.

    • First and second sliding parts of a sliding mechanism slide relative to each other. The first sliding part is held in a recess of a metal holding member, which is bounded by an inner wall that meets an open end of the recess along an edge. The first sliding part has a first side surface portion that contacts the inner wall in the recess away from the edge, and a second side surface portion displaced inwardly away from the inner wall so as not to contact the holding member at the edge. By this structure, generation of stress concentration on the sliding part can be avoided.
