摘要： A storm resistant device for a window that has a window frame enclosing at least one sash slidingly and pivotally mounted therein. The sash has side rails and the frame has vertical jambs that engage the side rails of the sash to raise and lower and pivot the sash. The storm resistant device comprises a first elongated bracket having a substantially Z-shaped cross section with two end segments and a middle segment connecting the two end segments. The middle segment is connectable to the side rails of the sashes with one of the end segments extending outward from the sash toward an adjacent jamb. There is a second elongated bracket having a substantially L-shaped cross section with two legs, one leg of the bracket adapted to be mounted to the jamb with a second leg of the L extending toward an adjacent side rail of the sash. The first and second brackets are mounted to the frame and sash, respectively, so that when the sash is closed, the one end segment of the first bracket interlocks with the second leg of the second bracket and prevents the sash from pivoting when pressure is applied to the sash.

The combined sliding and pivot window assembly is therefore safer and more convenient for use.

Also provided is a sash tilt limit bar which has a first end attached to the sash and a second end which is held within and which slides vertically in one of the balance channels without interfering with the balance device in the channel. The bar limits the tilting of the sash to positions which do not allow the second end of the bar to travel sufficiently far as to allow the bar to move to a position perpendicular to the frame where the bar might otherwise block closing of the sash.

摘要： A convertible window system having two window sashes, a weatherstripping, and a tilt pivot assembly. The window system can be readily switched between single-hung and double-hung configuration. The weatherstripping assembly, which is operatively connected to each of the two sashes, has a number of regions. Each of these regions has different attributes which determine the types of translations and rotations that can be performed on a sash with a predetermined force. In a preferred embodiment, an upper sash can be removed from a window frame by the application of a predetermined force on the top of the sash while the sash is within a predetermined range of the weatherstripping assembly without the need for withdrawing guide pins from the channel of the weatherstripping assembly.

The invention serves to retain the sash at a position along an axis generally perpendicular to a plane defined by the window frame. An inwardly facing surface of the frame has formed therein an elongated trough which extends generally parallel to a direction of intended sliding movement of the sash. A blade is mounted within a cavity in the sash and disposed for pivotal movement between a first position, wherein the blade is retracted within an outwardly facing surface of the sash, and a second position, wherein the blade is extended through the outwardly facing surface of the sash into the trough defined within the inwardly facing surface of the frame. The blade is normally biased to the second position, but it can volitionally be retracted to the first position to enable tilting inward or removal of the sash from the window frame.

摘要： A brake assembly for locking a vertical or horizontal slidable sash window or door within a track of a frame is disclosed. The track has an elongated base and a pair of spaced apart, opposed sidewalls extending perpendicular from the base. Each sidewall has an inner shoulder spaced from and parallel to the base. The assembly has a slider body having a central opening extending from a front face of the body to a rear face of the body. The slider body has a side opening in each side of the slider body and being in communication with the central opening. A pair of brake members are provided wherein one brake member is slidably positioned within a respective one of the side openings. A cam has a rear face and a front face, and is adapted to receive a pivot member mounted on either the sash window or door. The cam is positioned in the central opening and is adapted to be rotatable within the opening by the pivot member. The cam, slider body and brake members include cooperative structure for converting rotary motion of the cam into radial movement of the brake members through the side openings and axial movement of the cam and slider body to lock the brake assembly within the track.
