[Also in Division D1] Polyolefin compositions having improved dyeability are obtained by mixing a polyolefin resin with (A) 1 to 5 weight per cent of one or more amines NR 1 R 2 R 3 where R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are each alkyl or substituted alkyl groups having at least 8 carbon atoms, or 0À5 to 20 weight per cent of one or more polymers containing more than 1x10 -5 gram equivalents per gram of nitrogen capable of being converted into the form of ammonium ions at a pH of 2; (B) an inorganic substance of particle size less than 1 micron and selected from lithium, strontium, calcium, barium, magnesium, basic magnesium and zinc carbonates, magnesium and zinc hydroxides and oxides, and calcium silicate, in amount of 1 to 5 weight per cent when (A) is an amine, and 0À5 to 20 weight per cent when (A) is a polymer the amount thereof being at least one third of (B) ; and (C) 1 to 20 weight per cent of liquid paraffin. Specified polyolefins are polyethylene, polypropylene, polybutene, poly-4-methylpentene-1 and copolymers. Many suitable amines and nitrogen-containing polymers including polyamides, polyalkyleneimines, polyesters, polycarbonates and polyurethanes are listed and examples describe the preparation of filaments from compositions comprising polypropylene, paraffin and (1) trioctylamine and calcium carbonate, (2) trioctadecylamine and basic magnesium carbonate, (5) a polyalkyleneimine resin obtained by condensing epichlorohydrin with laurylamine and calcium carbonate and (6) an #-caprolactam/hexamethylene adipamide copolyamide and calcium silicate; and comprising polyethylene, paraffin and (4) a N,N - diethylaminoethyl methacrylate/methyl methacrylate copolymer and calcium carbonate.
