    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 5-hydroxy-4-thiomethylpyrazole compound simply in a high yield.
      SOLUTION: The method for producing the 5-hydroxy-4-thiomethylpyrazole compound represented by formula (3) (wherein R
      1 , R
      2 , R
      3 , and n are as defined hereinbelow) comprises reacting a pyrazole represented by formula (1) (wherein R
      1 is a hydrogen group, or the like; and R
      2 is an electron-withdrawing group) with a sulfur compound represented by formula (2) (wherein X is a hydrogen atom or a metal; R
      3 is an alkyl group or the like; and n is 0 or 2) in the presence of a base and formaldehyde. This method can produce the 5-hydroxy-4-thiomethylpyrazole compound without using any special apparatus and any expensive catalyst, transition metal, or the like in a high yield in a single process and is of high industrial value because it produces no toxic wastes originated from a catalyst and the like and is environmentally friendly in virtue of the possibility of using water as a solvent.
