    • Procedure for retrieving an insertion of an underwater buoy (12, 50) in a well (11) at the bottom of a dynamically positioned vessel (10), at which a pulling line (16, 34) for interconnection with the buoy (12, 50) is lowered through the well (11) and hoisted to the deck (13) of the vessel (10), and the buoy (12, 50) is interconnected with the pulling line (16, 34) and hoisted into the well (11) by use of a winching device (15, 65) on the vessel, comprising the steps of attaching the pulling line (16, 34) to the connection unit (19, 32) on the deck (13) of the vessel (10), to lower the connection unit (19, 32) with the pulling line (16, 34) towards the buoy (12, 50) by use of a hoisting device (18, 30, 39) on the vessel (10) under possible guidance by use of the dynamic positioning system of the vessel, to place the connection unit (19, 32) on a cooperating device (20, 51, 52) on the top of the buoy (12, 50), whereby a terminal end on the pulling line (16, 34) is connected to the cooperating device (20, 51, 52) to release the connection unit (19, 32) from the cooperating device (20, 51, 62), and to hoist the connection unit onto the deck of the vessel (10) by using a hoisting device (18, 30, 39), to position the vessel (10) in such a way that the buoy (12, 50) is positioned vertically below the well (11) and to hoist the buoy (12, 50) into the well (11) by using a winching device (15, 65).

    • A method of using a semi-submersible tender with a deck, a shape that results in a combined environmental load less than 1000 kips in a 100-year extreme weather condition, a plurality of supports each with a rounded shape connected to the deck, a plurality of pontoons connecting the supports with each pontoon being capable of ballast transfer, wherein the tender is used for mooring in a tendering position relative to an offshore platform during a 1-year, 10-year, and 100-year storm, as well as non-storm conditions, using hawsers with adequate elasticity to accommodate the wave frequency between the platform and the tender and adequate stiffness to synchronize the mean/low frequency movement between the platform and the tender under an environmental load produced during a 10-year winter storm, and enough slack during a 10-year storm to enable the tender to move to a tender standby position, and wherein the tender uses an at least 6-point mooring system for creating global equilibrium between the platform and the tender.

    • A lower bearing arrangement between a turret of an FPU and a moonpool. The outer housing of the bearing is mounted about the turret instead of the FPU's hull structure. Bearing segments are captured between an outer ring of the turret and an inner ring of the outer housing. The outer housing of the bearing assembly is coupled to a reaction ring of the moonpool so that rotation forces of the vessel are transferred to the outer housing of the bearing. The coupling also includes an arrangement by which the outer housing contacts said reaction ring in the nature of a spherical joint.

    • A mooring assembly for securing a boat to a waterfront structure such as the surface of a dock has a pair of elongate mooring arms each having a pivot end pivotally coupled to the waterfront structure in horizontally spaced-apart relationship, and each having a mooring end remote from the pivot end, that is displaceable toward and away from the surface of the water as the arm is pivoted about the pivot end. At the mooring end of each mooring arm, a mooring pin extends from the arm in a direction that is generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the arm, so that as the mooring end is displaced toward the water when the arm is pivoted about the coupling to the waterfront structure, the mooring pin can be inserted into a suitably dimensioned aperture in a mooring bracket mounted on the surface of a boat. At the pivot end of each arm, a pivot pin projects at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the arm and engages a pivot bracket that is configured for mounting to the waterfront structure in any well known manner. In addition to the pivot pin, an elongate spacer rod extends from the pivot end of each mooring arm in coaxial alignment with the associated mooring pin, and the respective spacer rods of the two mooring arms are mounted in opposed, coaxial alignment when the pivot brackets are mounted on a waterfront structure, so that the two mooring arms may be coupled to each other through the space rods. A tubular spacing sleeve has an open interior space and two open, opposite ends which telescopically receive the respective ends of the two spacer rods. The spacer sleeve includes provisions for maintaining the opposed ends of the spacer rods in suitably spaced apart relationship; one embodiment incorporates spacer pins that are inserted into spaced-apart through holes extending diametrically through opposed portions of the wall sleeve, and in another embodiment a pair of set screws extend through spaced-apart threaded openings in the wall of the sleeve for threaded advancement and retraction into and out of the central interior space. A pair of spacer elements each having a plurality of annular grooves are telescopically displaceable within the interior space of the sleeve where they may be locked into desired position by engagement of the set screws in a desired annular groove.

    • A portable mooring device is adaptable for attachment to existing devices, such as cleat or rail, or directly to a boat or other water craft. A flat plate is attached directly to the water craft or to an existing cleat or rail, and then an attachment device is attached to the plate. The attachment device may be a mounting plate that receives a rod secured thereto by a pin or other fastening device. The rod may be of a desired length to secure the water craft to a dock with a rope or other securing device. The rod is secured in the mounting plate so that it will not move laterally to the dock, therefore keeping the watercraft at a desired distance from the dock and preventing the water craft from hitting and rubbing against the dock, or other water craft. The rod may have a pivot point on the end attached to the mounting plate so the boat can move up and down with the movement of the water.
