    • A shock absorbing stopper 4 is provided on an automobile body which an engine E is mounted via an engine mount 3 at a portion in front of the engine E and is for absorbing an impact force generated due to the collision between the engine E and automobile body. The shock absorbing stopper 4 is composed of a first buffer member 41 and a second buffer member 42 each having different shock absorbing characteristics mounted in the lengthwise direction of the automobile body. By such a construction, the impact force can be absorbed in a step-by-step manner and thus, the absorbing efficiency can be enhanced.

    • A front end of a motor vehicle, e.g., a passenger vehicle, having two longitudinal members, extending essentially parallel to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, and an integral member on which a drive unit of the motor vehicle is mounted. The integral member has, on each side of the vehicle, a base member which extends essentially parallel to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and is fastened in each case by a front supporting pillar and by a rear supporting pillar to one of the longitudinal members. Each longitudinal member being of deformable configuration in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle at least between the supporting pillars. In order to improve the deformation behavior of the front end, each base member is fastened exclusively via its front supporting pillar and its rear supporting pillar at the bottom to associated longitudinal members. Each base member is configured such that it has greater stiffness in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle than the respectively associated longitudinal member. The supporting pillars are configured and connected to the associated longitudinal member and/or to the associated base member such that they pivot about pivot axes extending essentially transversely with respect to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, during a relative displacement between the base member and longitudinal member in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle.

The variable speed V-belt transmission is joined to a crankshaft through a centrifugal clutching arrangement. The shiftable transmission enables an operator to go between low, high, neutral, reverse, and park. In the park position, the transmission is locked from substantial rotation such that the engaged wheels of the all-terrain vehicle are also locked from substantial rotation, whether or not the engine speed is sufficient to allow the centrifugal clutch to be engaged with the variable speed transmission.

    • An engine mount for a vehicle, such as a snowmobile, that can be used when space for the engine within a chassis is limited and which is easily accessed from the side of the chassis for assembly and repair. The engine mount can be attached to the bottom of an engine that is positioned within a chassis. The engine mount can include four hollow, cylindrical portions. Each cylindrical portion having an axis extending transverse to the longitudinal direction of the snowmobile chassis and receiving a damping mount. Fasteners can be inserted through the chassis to couple with the damping mounts and cylindrical portions in a direction that is transverse to the longitudinal direction of the chassis. The configuration of the damping mounts permits effective damping especially in a direction transverse to the direction of forward travel of the vehicle.

    • A vehicle structure has a floor panel, a propeller shaft, a guide flange, and a stay. The floor panel is divided into a pair of side walls along the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. The propeller shaft is disposed within the floor panel, and has a joint at an intermediate position thereof. Motive power from an engine is transmitted via the propeller shaft. The guide flange is fixed to an outer peripheral surface of the propeller shaft in a region near the joint. The stay is disposed to the rear of the guide flange, and links the side walls of the propeller shaft. When the propeller shaft moves rearward, the guide flange interferes with the stay.

    • An all terrain vehicle includes an engine located under a hingably mounted seat, the seat providing ready access to the engine for maintenance and repair. The vehicle includes an engine having a clutch housing and a clutch cover sealably connected to the clutch housing. At least one of the clutch housing and the clutch cover include a bottom wall having at least one coolant-fillable cooling channel within the thickness of the bottom wall provided to cool oil above the clutch housing and the clutch cover. The vehicle also includes a frame having a plurality of engine mounting points. The engine is supportable by the frame and includes a crankcase and a plurality of mounting points adapted to engage the plurality of engine mounting points on the frame. The plurality of mounting points include at least one uppermost mounting point, wherein the at least one uppermost mounting point is positioned on the crankcase.
