    • A printing press having a jaw mode assembly and a rotary mode assembly with a single folding cylinder adapted to feed either the jaw mode assembly or the rotary mode assembly is disclosed. A moving web of material is initially trained about the folding cylinder and cut into a signatures which are then temporarily held on the folding cylinder. A folding blade extends from the folding cylinder to initiate a fold in each signature and direct each signature to either the jaw mode assembly or the rotary mode assembly. The timing of the folding blade is coordinated and adjusted using an indexable spider assembly to feed either the jaw mode assembly or the rotary mode assembly.

    • A web of printed paper is cut into sections by a cutting cylinder while riding on a folding cylinder, and each paper section has its midpart subsequently pushed by a folding blade on the folding cylinder into a jaw cavity formed in the surface of a jaw cylinder in order to be folded into the form of a signature while being transferred from the folding cylinder onto the jaw cylinder. Mounted adjacent the opposite ends of the jaw cavity in the jaw cylinder are a pair of hooks which are cammed into and out of the space that is created by the midpart of each paper section upon insertion in the jaw cavity. The paper section has its midpart positively retained in the jaw cavity while being folded. A set of fixed and movable jaws is also provided in the jaw cavity and functions mostly to fold the paper section rather than to grip the same against accidental detachment.

    • A printing press with crop mark setting device and process is provided. A printing couple for printing on a web is used with a lengthwise cutting device for cutting the printed web lengthwise into a first web strand and at least one second web strand. A convergence device converges the web strands or for converging the web strands with at least one other web strand each to provide one or more converged web strands, the convergence device including a turning bar device. A cross-cutting device cross-cuts the converged web strands. A crop mark sets a crop mark of the web strands that is related to the cross cutting. The crop mark setting device has a first deflecting device for deflecting the first web strand around a first deflection axis and a second deflecting device for deflecting the second web strand around a second deflection axis. The second deflecting device is mounted movably in relation to the first deflecting device in a frame such that a length of a path of the second web strand in relation to the length of the path of the first web strand can be changed by a movement of the second deflecting device in relation to the first deflecting device. The crop mark setting device is arranged in front of the turning bar device with respect to a direction of delivery of the web.

    • To stably transport an elongated web-like print paper so as not to move in the widthwise direction of the print paper, a first sensor is disposed at a first position in a paper conveying path and a second sensor at a second position downstream of the first position with respect to the paper conveying direction. Both the first and second sensors detect a position of a side edge or the print paper. A difference between the outputs from the first and second sensors is computed while taking a travel time of the edge detected by the first sensor to reach the second sensor into account. A main controller generates a drive signal based on the difference computed and controls a mechanism for moving the print paper in the widthwise direction in accordance with the drive signal.
