    • A hydraulic press is provided with a fixed base and at least one rail. The hydraulic press is slidably disposed on the rail. A die is slidably mounted on the hydraulic press for operatively engaging a moving coil of material upon activation of the hydraulic press. A clamp is fixably connected with the die and is slidably mounted on the hydraulic press. The clamp has a pneumatically powered anvil which secures itself to the moving coil of material to cause the clamp and the die to move along with the moving coil of material. A first stop is disposed between the press and the die for providing engagement there between to stop relative movement between the die and the hydraulic press. An accelerator displaces the hydraulic press with respect to the base to move along with the moving coil of material. The clamp holds the material while the die engages the moving coil of material to ensure tension in the moving coil of material. Powered outlet rollers pull the work piece away from the press and thereby ensure tension between themselves and the hydraulic press when the die engages the moving coil of material.

    • A shearing and coiling assembly for hot rolled stock with a thickness of between 0.5 and more than 5 mm, comprising a shearing unit (11) and a coiling machine (10) comprising a turntable assembly (12) rotating around an axis of rotation (13) orthogonal to the axis of feed of the rolled stock and lying on a plane substantially parallel to the plane of feed (14) of the rolled stock. The turntable assembly (12) supports two coiling mandrels (15a, 15b) arranged diametrically opposite each other and with an axis parallel to the axis of rotation (13). The turntable assembly (12) includes at least a first operating position wherein the first mandrel (15a) is in a position awaiting the leading end of the rolled stock and ready to begin coiling, substantially cooperating with the plane of feed (14) and at least a second operating position, rotated by 180° with respect to the first operating position, wherein the first mandrel (15a) is in a position where the rolled stock is completely coiled and the coil (30) is ready to be discharged and the second mandrel (15b) is in a position awaiting the leading end of the rolled stock and ready to begin coiling. The shearing unit (11) can be moved between a working position in which it is aligned with the plane of feed (14) of the rolled stock, and an inactive position distant from the plane of feed (14).

A system for repairing a dent in sheet metal includes urging the spinning working head of the dent repair tool against a raised portion of dented sheet metal to reduce or eliminate a dent. A method for repairing sheet metal having a dent includes the steps of reducing or eliminating the dent by applying force by means of a rotating perimeter side of a spinning working head to a surface of the sheet metal at the location of raised sheet metal formed by the dent. The method may further include generating a reflection from a front surface of the sheet metal at the location of the dent while the act of reducing or eliminating the dent is being performed, the reflection becoming more ordered as the dent is reduced or eliminated.

    • The invention relates to a method of manufacturing the outer part of a constant velocity joint, the outer part having in the finished condition a hollow chamber with a cylinder-shaped inner wall, in which there are provided ball raceways (1c) which run obliquely of the cylinder axis and are inclined with respect to one another. First, a wobble press die (4) is axially introduced into a goblet-shaped preliminary workpiece (1a) for the outer part having a conically developing inner and outer wall and pre-formed ball raceways (1c) in the inner wall. The preliminary workpiece (1a) is pressed (drawing process) by means of the wobble press die (4), sitting on the floor of the hollow chamber, through an opening in an outer die (2), so that a drawing process is carried out in which the preliminary workpiece (1a) is so cold formed that the inner wall of the hollow chamber is given a cylindrical shape. Thereafter the outer die (2) and the wobble press die (4), having a truncated cone-shaped outer contour, and having elevations (4a) on its outer side corresponding to the ball raceways (1c) and having a lesser diameter than the cylindrical hollow chamber of the drawn preliminary workpiece (1a), are set into a wobbling circular movement relative to one another such that the elevations (4a) of the wobble press die (4) move over the pre-formed ball raceways (1c) on the inner wall of the hollow chamber in a pressing and material shaping manner. Thereafter the wobble press die (4) is axially drawn out of the preliminary workpiece (1a) and finally, the finished joint outer part is ejected from the outer die (2).

    • A method and apparatus for reducing crop losses during slab and ingot rolling concerns the formation of a slab ingot having a specially configured or shaped butt end and optionally a head end as well. A special shape is formed by machining, forging or preferably by casting. The special shape at the butt end is imparted during casting by a specially shaped bottom block or starter block. The special shape of the bottom block is imparted to the cast ingot butt end. The specially shaped butt end of a slab shaped ingot is generally rectangular in shape and has longitudinally outwardly extending, enlarged portions, which slope downwardly toward a depressed central valley region. The lateral sides of the enlarged end portions and the depressed valley region carry transversely extending, tapered or curved edges. A similar shape may be imparted to the head end of the ingot at the conclusion of a casting run through the use of a specially shaped hot top mold or by way of machining or forging the cast head end. During subsequent hot rolling in a reversing roughing mill, the specially shaped slab ingot minimizes the formation of overlap and tongue so as to improve material recovery by reducing end crop losses and to increase rolling mill efficiency by increasing metal throughput in the mill.
