    • A special form of fiuid cyclone in which the velocity energy in the exit fluid is converted into exit pressure thus permitting the device to discharge to atmospheric pressure or a higher pressure while a vacuum may exists in the central core of the vortex. The result is achieved by use of a curved passage at the exit which starts as a coaxial space and gradually expands and turns outward to become a circular space between two disks. The removal of reject material to atmospheric pressure with a vacuum at the core may be achieved by limiting the restriction In cross-section of the bottom core such that the pressure is atmospheric and allow it to leave through a space between the end of the cone and a blunt shaped surface. The above special form of fluid cyclone operates particularly well, because of reduced energy losses, when employed in a multiple arrangement in which the tangential velocity energy of fluid entering the barrel of the individual cyclone units is created by fluid flowing at larger radius such as to create a pattern of multiple vortex flow. The vortices are in a chamber providing a common inlet to a plurality of cyclone units whith the vortices centering on the individual units. The special arrangement of fluid cyclones is in a geometry similar to that of a vortex trail with an even number of units of opposing vortex direction. The same type of arrangement; i.e. having all of the units discharge into a common chamber, leads to further energy recovery in fluid leaving the fluid cyclones.

    • A vortex cleaner for fractionating particle-liquid suspensions comprises an elongate, upstanding vortex chamber having a circular cross-section and narrowing downwardly to its bottom end. A substantially tangential suspension inlet means is disposed in the wider end ofthe vortex chamber and a further chamber located axially above the wider end of the vortex chamber. The cleaner further comprises a light-fraction outlet means having pipe means which projects axially into the wider end of the vortex chamber and has a smaller diameter than said wider end, and the upper outlet end of which pipe means opens into the further chamber. A heavy-fraction outlet means is disposed at the narrow end of the vortex chamber, and a light-fraction outlet opening is located in the further chamber axially beneath the upper outlet end of the pipe means, this further chamber extending co-axially with and around the pipe means in a manner to enclose the upper end thereof and to form a space above the outlet end of the pipe means. Air outflow means extend into the aforementioned space at a location above the upper end of the pipe means.

    • A cyclone for treating a gas flow (F) containing dust comprises a cyclone chamber (1) of circular cross section and having a vertical axis, and a central tube (7) of circular cross section, which is coaxially arranged in the upper portion of the cyclone chamber (1). An elongate insert element (10), which is vertically inserted in the central tube (7), is so designed and extends in such a manner downwards in the central tube (7) from the upper end thereof that a circumferential gap (17) exists between the insert element (10) and the central tube (7). This gap (17) has a preferably constant cross-sectional area which does not increase in the direction of the gas flow.

    • In a cyclone for the cleaning of hot gases, the centre-pipe (1) is produced of curved outer and inner elements (7, 8) which are made of fireproof material. The outer and inner elements (7, 8) are suspended in a self-supporting construction in upper end elements (2), and the lower edge of the centre-pipe (1) is provided with lower end elements (14), in that the individual elements are suspended within each other by means of projections (9, 9´), and the upper end elements (2) are suspended in a supporting structure (16) by means of anchoring devices (13) which cooperate with grooves in the upper end elements (2). There is hereby achieved a centre-pipe (1) which is capable of withstanding high temperatures, and which can therefore be used in cyclones for the cleaning of hot gases. Since the centre-pipe is built up of a large number of elements (7, 8, 2, 14), it can be expedient for it to be assembled during the building of the actual cyclone, and thus it becomes much easier and cheaper both to produce and to transport the individual elements.
