    • A method for applying a therapeutic signal (24) to a body portion (34) of a subject (20) to encourage hair growth utilizes an apparatus (22) that includes a first electrode (28) and a second electrode (32). The first electrode (28) is secured in contact with the skin surface of the subject (20) remote from the body portion (34), and the second electrode (32) is positioned at the body portion (34). The therapeutic signal (24) is provided at a conductive pod (114) of the second electrode (32). The second electrode (32) is manipulated by an operator to apply a circular motion (134) to the body portion (34) underlying the conductive pod (114). The circular motion (134) is repetitively applied as the conductive pod (114) is moved across the body portion (34) to loosen connective tissue at the body portion (34).

    • An implantable cardiac device, such as a pacemaker, provided with a carbon monofluoride (CFx) battery. The CFx battery enables replacement of the typical voltage tripler with a voltage doubler and eliminates the need for a bulky decoupling capacitor. The device includes a precision A/D and voltage monitor to enable more accurate prediction of impending battery end-of-life. Several methods of accurately determining a pending end-of-life of a battery with a flat voltage output throughout discharge, such as a CFx battery, are provided.

    • An implantable multi-chamber cardiac stimulation device and method are provided for accurately sensing cardiac activity from three or four heart chambers using passive sensing electrodes placed in each heart chamber. Multiple intra-chamber or inter-chamber sensing vectors are established between passive sensing electrodes. Sampled sensing vector signals are processed such that a cardiac depolarization may be accurately detected, as well as its origin and direction of propagation. Time intervals between detected depolarization signals may be used to determine conduction time or heart rate. Diagnostic indicators of heart failure condition normally obtained from a 12-lead surface ECG study, such as P-wave or R-wave duration, may also be determined from the sensing vectors. Based on precise and detailed evaluation of sensing vector signals, stimulation therapy may be provided immediately upon a detected change in heart rhythm or heart failure condition.

    • A system for reducing wrinkles on human skin utilizes an electrode to conduct a microcurrent through the surface of the wrinkle into the underlying dermal layer. The electrode is moved in multiple passes along the length of the wrinkle with the electrode in contact with the surface of the wrinkle while generating a periodically repeating microcurrent having a peak amplitude in the range of 10-40 microamps, a peak current density in the range of 10-50 microamps/cm2, and a frequency in the range of 5-15 Hz. The electrode device is self-contained in a battery-containing, cordless case from which a contact electrode protrudes. A hand-engaging second electrode on the surface of the case completes a conductive path through the user's body.
