    • An electric lock includes a manual operation mechanism and an electric control mechanism. The manual operation mechanism includes a rotary knob unit, a first attracting member mounted fixedly to the rotary knob unit, a key-operated lockset, and a lock-connecting rod connected to and rotatable by the rotary knob unit and the key-operated lockset. The electric control mechanism includes a power source unit, a clutch gear driven by the power source unit to rotate in two directions, and a second attracting member mounted fixedly to the clutch gear. When the clutch gear is driven by the power source unit to rotate to align the first and second attracting members with each other, a magnetic attraction force is generated between the first and second attracting members to allow for co-rotation of the rotary knob unit with the clutch gear.

    • The lock is disclosed in the context of a mechanism for inhibiting the unauthorized removal of the rotatable portion of a weathervane of the type including a vane, a rotatable shaft affixed to the vane and a rigid shaft which supports the rotatable shaft and vane. The weathervane lock has a pair of mutually mating flanges which are rigidly affixed to and around the rotatable shaft. A housing assembly which is rigidly affixed to the support shaft encloses the flanges but without normally contacting the flanges or the rotatable shaft. The housing assembly includes two halves which are interconnected by pivot pins; the two halves, when closed upon each other, enclose all fastening devices which affix the flanges and the housing assembly to the weathervane. A padlock may be used to hold the housing assembly in the closed position. An attempt to remove the rotatable portion of the weathervane from the support shaft is resisted because the flanges on the rotatable shaft come into contact with the inner surface of the housing assembly which is affixed to the support shaft.

    • An anti-theft device (10) for motor vehicles which selectively disables the vehicle by interrupting the operative connection of the steering wheel (29) to the steering column (17). The device includes an outer cylindrical boss (14) which is fixed to the steering wheel (29) and rotatably mounted on and about an inner cylindrical boss (12) affixed to the steering column (17). A key (62) actuated locking mechanism (16) is carried by the outer boss (14) which includes a spring (50) biased bolt (52) which selectively engages the inner boss (12) upon the outer boss (14) being rotationally aligned with the inner boss (12) to operatively connect the steering wheel (29) to the steering column (17). By unlocking the locking mechanism (16), this operative connection is interrupted and the vehicle cannot be controlled by the steering wheel and is thus disabled. As the disabling of the vehicle is obtained, when the locking mechanism (16) is in an unlocked position, as opposed to a locked position, damaging the mechanism (16) by the application of excessive force will not overcome its disabling effects.

    • An anti-theft security arrangement for the steering column (1) of a motor vehicle includes a clutch (9,10) which is adapted to resist turning of the steering up to a certain torque but thereafter to slip to avoid damage to the parts while still making control of the vehicle impractical. The clutch is arranged on a parallel axis to the steering column (1) and is connected to the column through a high-ratio gear train comprising a gear wheel (4) fast with the steering column and a pinion (8) fast with the clutch. It is engaged and disengaged by sliding the assembly of clutch (9,10) and pinion (8) into and out of mesh with the other gear wheel (4). The clutch includes a rotatable shaft (6) with teeth (9) engaging between spring steel rods (10) so as to turn in a series of discrete jerks if the limiting torque is exceeded.
