    • A solar collector is disclosed comprising a glass member having a solar selective coating thereon, and a molded, glass-reinforced concrete member bonded to the glass member and shaped to provide a series of passageways between the glass member and the fiber-reinforced concrete member capable of carrying heat exchanging fluid therethrough. The fiber-reinforced concrete member may be formed by spraying a thin layer of concrete and chopped fibers such as chopped glass fibers onto a mold to provide an inexpensive and lightweight, thin-walled member. The fiber-reinforced concrete member may have a lightweight cellular concrete backing thereon for insulation purposes. The collector is further characterized by the use of materials which have substantially matching thermal coefficients of expansion over the temperature range normally encountered in the use of solar collectors.

    • A fixed, linear, ground-based primary reflector having an extended curved-sawtooth contoured surface covered with a metallized polymeric reflecting material, reflects solar energy to a movably supported collector that is kept at the concentrated line focus of the reflector primary. The primary reflector may be constructed by a process utilizing well-known freeway paving machinery. The solar energy absorber is preferably a fluid-transporting pipe. Efficient utilization leading to high temperatures from the reflected solar energy is obtained by cylindrical shaped secondary reflectors that direct off-angle energy to the absorber pipe. To obtain higher temperature levels, refocusing secondary reflectors, that cause a series of discrete spots of highly concentrated solar energy to fall on the fluid-transporting pipe, are utilized. A seriatim arrangement of cylindrical secondary reflector stages and spot-forming reflector stages produces a high temperature solar energy collection system of greater efficiency.

    • A precast concrete solar collector panel of moldable hardenable material is developed with a serpentine-like passageway disposed in proximity to at least one planar surface of the panel. The passageway serves as a conduit for conveying a fluid to effect a heat transfer intermediate the proximate planar surface of the panel and the fluid rendering the panel useable as a heat collector or as a source of radiant heat, depending upon the relative temperatures between the conveyed fluid and the proximate planar surface. By constructing the panel as a structural member, a plurality of panels can be employed as a roof, exterior building wall, walkway, driveway or fence to receive radiant energy from the sun and transfer the collected heat to the fluid flowing within each of the panels; further panels can be employed as interior walls, ceilings or floors in buildings as sources of radiant heat by passing a heated fluid through the passageways.
