    • A pipe coupling apparatus for coupling together first and second opposing pipe flanges includes a number of gripping elements which are connected to the second pipe flange and are engageable with the first pipe flange. A locking element is displaceably arranged on the second pipe flange to lock the gripping elements to the first pipe flange when the pipe flanges are coupled together, and an insulating element extends around the second pipe flange and is connected to the locking element. The apparatus includes an actuating tool for displacing the first insulating element and thus the locking element.

    • A coupling device, especially for a line conduit conveying cryogenic liquids, of the easy make-and-break type, essentially comprises two connectable coupling bodies, one body comprising at least one locking means actuated by rotation so as to engage with anchorage means rigidly fixed on the other said body, heat insulation means incorporated in each said body and acting in the radial direction, said insulating means comprising an annular block of insulating material with internal and external walls enclosed by a casing on which are fixed said locking and/or said anchorage means, each annular block having a substantially flat radial wall and at least two coaxial fluid-tight joints being arranged so as to project towards the exterior beyond said radial wall, in the vicinity of the internal wall of said annular block in which is engaged an axial pipe connected to said line conduit which is also fixed on the internal wall of the annular block, and of the external wall of said annular block, the whole arrangement being such that in the assembled position, said joints are respectively applied one against the other by the effect of said locking means. The annular block is preferably made of an expandable plastic material such as polyurethane.

    • A conduit section combinable in end-to-end relationship with a plurality of similar conduit sections to form a conduit for carrying cryogenic fluids. The end portions of each such conduit section are telescopable into and connectable to end portions of like conduit sections; each section has an inner pipe portion and a concentric outer pipe portion with thermal insulation therebetween; one end portion is frusto-conical, and the opposite portion is a female type adapted to receive said frusto-conical end in close fitting relationship. The said opposite end of each conduit section has a motion compensator secured thereto, the motion compensator being exposed only to external pressure when the conduit sections are connected together as by welding, and providing a gas and liquid cryogen seal while elastically compensating for relative motion between the outer and inner pipe portions due to temperature differences between the pipe portions.

    • An air duct is provided with a female ring that is mounted within one end of the air duct and a male ring that is mounted within the other end of the air duct with a portion of the male ring extending beyond the end of the air duct. The extended portion of the male ring has an outside diameter less than the internal diameter of the female ring whereby the extended portion is adapted to be inserted into a female ring of another duct. The extended portion is also provided with projecting means of greater diameter than the internal diameter of the female ring for engaging a female ring of another duct to prevent withdrawal of the extended portion of the male ring from the female ring. The flexible air duct is assembled by securing the female ring and the male ring to ends of a helical reinforcing member of the air duct. The helical reinforcing member, the female ring and a portion of the male ring are then encased within a tubular envelope with the projecting means of the male ring external of the tubular envelope.
