    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an essentially seamless thin austenitic stainless steel pipe by annealing a welded pipe made of a stainless steel plate, after reducing its thickness to a specific ratio or above through roll extrusion, and reforming the weld zone structure to an equi-axed crystal structure equal to that of a base material. SOLUTION: An ASTM/ASME-A/SA 312, type 304/304L steel plate is formed, welded by GTAW without a filler material, and made into a pipe stock. This pipe stock is annealed to about 1,037 deg.C and, after a rapid quench processing making it about 427 deg.C from the annealing temperature within 10 minutes, heated to 1,052-1,121 deg.C for 30 minutes, with rapid cooling full annealing carried out; successively, after removing reinforcement of weld and smoothing of the external surface, the pipe thickness is reduced by at least 30% or more using a roll extrusion method under room temperature, forming a desired thickness and length of the pipe. Then, the pipe is heated to about 1,052 deg.C, with annealing performed in which the pipe is rapidly cooled from the heating temperature to about 427 deg.C within 10 minutes, removing mechanical deformation as well as recrystallizing the structure of a weld zone, so that it is reformed to the structure equal to that of a base material.

    • PURPOSE: To make positioning speedy and easy by rotating a flat surface on one side with regard to an azimuth to minimize an output signal from corresponding first and second level detecting means. CONSTITUTION: Two pairs of sensors S and S' are calibrated by putting them on the same display (the surface 13 of a fixing base 12), etc., so that corresponding inclinometers I1 /I2 /I1 /I2 ' are positioned to be mutually in a collinear relation and an attitude difference between the corresponding inclinometers is adjusted. Next, S' on one side of the two pairs of sensors is removed from the surface 13 of the fixing base 12 to be placed on the surface 15 of a fixing base 14 to position the corresponding interferometers of two pairs of sensors S and S' in a collinear relation. Finally the two fixing bases 12 and 14 are tilted by the same quantity and a fixing base on an adjusted side is fixed with regard to an azimuth to make a differential signal zero to make the slave fixing base 12 coincide with the master fixing base 14 concerning a rolling, a pitching and the azimuth.

    • PURPOSE: To improve the contrast/transmittance by providing a cholesteric liquid crystal element to be functioned as an image shutter device while allows the selective transmission of the respective parts of images to an observer or shuts off the same in combination with an LCD to be installed. CONSTITUTION: While the cholesteric element has an extremely high transmittance to light exclusive of a band width B (green), the element is capable of reflecting 90% of the light exclusive thereof. The cholesteric element 54 reflects the RCHP(right hand cholesteric) green light emitted by this characteristics and allows the transmission of the LHCP(left hand cholesteric) image to the controllable type LCD 56, thereby forming the image from an image source 52 as left hand circularly polarized light. The LCD 56 allows the transmission of the image as it is without attenuation when a specified voltage level is impressed thereon. The LCD converts the transmission image into the RHCP by another voltage level. When the light of the circularly polarized light is reflected by a beam splitter 58, etc., the inversion of the polarization direction is made possible. As a result, the attenuation is lessened and a high contrast ratio of the image with respect to the background image and a high transmittance of the image are obtd.

    • PURPOSE: To maintain a reading rate in daytime and make it possible to read an LCD display unit in nighttime irrelevantly to whether or not night visual goggles are used by using a daytime lamp with high efficiency in the day and a dedicated nighttime lamp which emit no infrared rays in the night. CONSTITUTION: A backlighting system 40 of a liquid crystal display device 60 has an intermediate lamp 42 being a high-luminance back fluorescent lamp coupled with a reflecting surface 44 for daytime recognition and a backlighting wedge type block 46 which gives lighting through an edge surface 48 with light from the daytime lamp 50 adapted to the nighttime goggles. The lamps 42 and 50 can be adjusted in luminance by an external driving circuit and operate under complementary conditions. Namely, only the intermediate lamp 42 is turned on for daytime view and nighttime view without the goggles. When the nighttime goggles are used, only the nighttime lamp 50 is turned on. The nighttime lamp 50 user a lamp in a class where infrared rays are not emitted or a filter 52 which is adapted to the nighttime view is added.
