    • The present invention relates to a braking system for a shaft (10) coupled to a vehicle wheel. The braking system includes a friction surface (12) connected to the shaft (10) and containing a soft magnetic material, as well as a friction lining (16) facing the friction surface (12) and maintained on a support (20) so as to be essentially stationary in each rotation direction of the shaft (10). This friction lining can be displaced towards the friction surface (12). This system further includes an electromagnet system which is connected to the support (20) so as to face the friction surface (12) and which is designed so that, when energising the electromagnet system, the friction surface (12) and the friction lining (16) are brought into frictional contact. The braking system also includes an adjustment device (22; 40, 42, 44, 46, 50) for the friction lining (16). In order to prevent the support (20) from rubbing against the friction surface, the adjustment device includes at least one adjustment member (22, 40) for each coil (28) of the electromagnet system. All adjustment members (22, 40) urge the friction linings (16) until said linings protrude from the front of the electromagnet system.
