    • A carburetor for a two stroke engine according to the invention comprises an air passage and a separate fuel and air mixing passage in a carburetor body and having an air valve and a throttle valve, respectively. A coupling connects a valve shaft of the air valve with a valve shaft of the throttle valve and has an area wherein the valves are rotatable relative to each other corresponding to a difference between an opening and closing angle of the air valve and an opening and closing angle of the throttle valve. Preferably, when the throttle valve is in an idle position, the air valve is closed and the throttle valve can be opened through at least some angle from its idle position before the air valve is moved from its closed position. Also, the air valve is preferably fully opened when the throttle valve is moved to its fully or wide open position. Thus, at idle operation of the engine, the air valve is closed to prevent a scavenging air supply from being provided to the engine to avoid an overly lean fuel air and mixture in the engine. When the engine is moved sufficiently off idle, the air valve is opened to supply the scavenging air supply to the engine which facilitates removal of exhaust gases and reduces the escape of a fresh fuel and air mixture through the engine exhaust ports.

    • A carburetor comprising a throttle cable housing mountable over a throttle cable and couplable to a retainer or receptacle that is an integrated part of the carburetor assembly. The throttle cable housing is configured with a molded protrusion that snaps into the retainer or receptacle on the carburetor so that once installed the throttle cable housing cannot be removed without a special tool. The retainer or receptacle accepts the snap in throttle cable housing and can be positioned in a variety of ways to facilitate the requirements of the engine manufacturer. In a rotary carburetor, the retainer or receptacle is preferable formed on the rotor cover. In a carburetor with a butterfly throttle valve, the retainer or receptacle is preferable formed as an integrated part of the metering chamber cover.

    • The present invention provides a carburetor that can be adapted to a variety of engines with different positional relationships between the location for feeding the air/fuel mixture and the location for feeding scavenging air. The carburetor a carburetor main body (22) with an air intake passage (24) forming a portion of the air/fuel mixture passage (23) and is provided with an air passage (33) that forms a portion of an air channel (32) for scavenging air. The air passage (33) is positioned parallel to an air intake passage (24), and the front end thereof is positioned further to the base end side than to the engine-side front end face of the carburetor main body (22), enhancing the degree of freedom for placing the conduit pipe (34) for connecting the air passage (33) to the scavenging air feed port (9). Also, the throttle valve (26) and the air valve (35) are butterfly valves with mutually parallel valve stems, and the interlocking mechanism thereof has a simple configuration.
