    • For splitting-up a supply stream (2) of piece goods into a plurality of conveying away streams, the supplied objects (3) are guided onto a plurality of conveying away paths (4.1, 4.2, 4.3) in a predetermined splitting-up sequence. The device includes a supply device for serially supplying objects (3) to a split-up point (1) and for positioning the objects (3) for being taken over by holding device (6.1, 6.2, 6.3) in the split-up point (1). The device also has a plurality of conveying away systems, each one of which defines one of the conveying away paths. Of the conveying away systems advantageously each one has a closed-loop rail track (5.1, 5.2, 5.3) and holding devices (6.1, 6.2, 6.3) movable along the rail track independently of one another and with variable distances between one another. The rail tracks (5.1, 5.2, 5.3) of the conveying away systems converge toward the split-up point (1), run through the split-up point (1) parallel to one another, and diverge after the split-up point (1). The conveying away systems also have buffers that retain the holding devices upstream of the split-up point (1) and devices for releasing the holding devices from the buffers (7.1, 7.2, 7.3) in a controlled manner. The conveying away systems also have devices for conveying the holding devices (6.1, 6.2, 6.3) through the split-up point (1) in a controlled manner and for activating the holding devices in the split-up point. A serial stream of holding devices through the split-up point (1) is produced by controlled release of holding devices (6.1, 6.2, 6.3) from the buffers (7.1, 7.2, 7.3) so that holding devices belonging to different conveying away systems are arranged in a sequence corresponding to the splitting-up sequence for the objects (3).

    • In an adjustment zone (B), the spacings between objects, which are conveyed by independently movable holding elements (2) along a rail track (1) are e.g. for a processing operation adjusted to a predefined value larger than the minimum spacing. To achieve this, a continuously circulating and compressible, adjusting chain (5) running in a circulating track is provided, which adjusting chain (5) is elongatable in a controlled manner. The circulating track extends at least in the adjustment zone (B) parallel to the rail track (1) such that the adjusting chain is in engagement with holding elements (2) conveyed along the rail track (1). Furthermore, control means for adjusting a predefined compression of the adjusting chain (5) are provided in the adjustment zone (B). The adjusting chain (5) comprises e.g. chain links (6) joined together in an articulated manner. Assigned to every second articulated joint of chain links (6) are guide rollers (7.1) rolling in a circular guideway (8) and drivers for driving holding elements (2), and assigned to the other articulated joints are control rollers (12) rolling along a cam (11) which serves as control means. The distance between the circular guideway (8) and the cam (11) determines compression of the adjusting chain (5) and therefore the spacing between the holding elements (2) in the adjustment zone (B). The device is suitable in particular for adjusting spacings between holding elements greater than the minimum spacings as established between holding elements being conveyed in a pushed manner, wherein the holding elements are pushed and the adjusting chain (5) is circulating passively.

    • The inventive method and apparatus serve to combine into groups different printed products supplied as continuous flows (1, 2, 3 etc.), on at least one grouping section (10.1, 10.2, 10.3), in which each group can have a composition of in each case one product from different supply flows corresponding to a predetermined group sequence. The production of faulty groups is prevented, in that in the supplies errors are detected at an early stage, so that groups affected by an error, are not formed in the predetermined cycle and are instead displaced by one cycle. The group flow leaving the method consequently contains only gaps and not faulty groups. For performing the method between the supplies (63.4, 63.5) of products and the grouping (10.1, 10.2) are introduced a supply control, a supply buffer storage and a controlled delivery. The means (64.2, 64.3, 64.4 etc.) for performing these three method stages are constituted by conveyors with cams or drivers, which are interconnected with a drag connection and which are moved by two substantially independently controlled drives on a continuous guide. The drivers are controlled following an acceptance point at which they have accepted a product from the supply unit (63.4, 63.5) and faulty products are recorded. They then pass into a buffer storage space and leave the latter through a controlled delivery point, where they deliver the product into the grouping.

    • The transport apparatus comprises an endless guide device extending in a closed path and at which there are guided a number of entrainment elements. These entrainment elements are interconnected by a toothed belt deformed into a substantially wave-shaped configuration by attachment elements secured at the entrainment elements. At each of the starting region and terminal region of the conveying-active path of the transport apparatus, there are rotatably mounted two parallel cam discs rotatable in a predetermined direction of rotation by related drives. Recesses in the cam discs act upon the entrainment elements such that the latter are driven at the starting region and terminal region of the conveying-active path and are dispositioned in a predetermined mutual position. The spacing between the entrainment elements at the conveying-active path and at the non-conveying active path is compensated by the resilient action of the wave-shaped deformed toothed belt. Differences in the operating cadence or in the phase position between printed products delivered to the transport apparatus and outfed away therefrom are compensated by increasing or reducing the spacing between the entrainment elements.

    • Flat objects (10) are packaged with a packaging material (1) that is supplied as a quasi-endless web. The packaging material (1) is gripped at one of its surfaces by gripping elements (6), which are spaced from on another. During conveyance of the packaging material (1) by the gripping elements (6), the distances between the gripping elements (6) are reduced and the packaging material (1) is made to buckle between the gripping elements to one side, forming a string of bags (1′). During further conveyance these bags (1′) are charged with the flat objects (10), are severed from the string of bags, and are sealed. The packaging material, which is supplied, with its width aligned essentially horizontally, is gripped from above by the gripping elements (6) and therefore buckles downwards by gravity, and the bags are charged from above. The formation of the string of bags is very simple, and for adjusting the bag depth the only measure needed is a corresponding adjustment of the original distance between the gripping elements (6).

    • At a conveyor device following an infeed conveyor, individually controllable grippers are arranged in spaced relationship at a revolvingly driven buffer chain. These grippers serve to engage folded printed products at their leading edges and which are infed in imbricated formation. The links of the buffer chain are interconnected by pivot bolts. These pivot bolts are alternately displaceably mounted in guide members. By reducing the spacing between these guide members, there is increased the spacing between the grippers. By increasing the spacing between the guide members it is possible to again reduce the spacing between the grippers. At a product take-over region the printed products are engaged by the grippers. At a subsequently arranged product acceleration region the spacing between the grippers is enlarged so that the printed products, in this acceleration region, no longer are in overlapping formation. At a product singling region a drag drive acts upon the links of the buffer chain. In a subsequently arranged product deceleration region the spacing between the grippers is again reduced and the printed products are placed into a suspended position. In subsequent product transfer region, the printed products are delivered to an outfeed conveyor.
