The article is composed of a first backing layer (6), a second inner layer (8), and an optional adhesive layer (10), e.g. a hot-melt adhesive or a mastic. In one aspect, the article comprises a first layer (6), a second layer (8), and an adhesive (10) which is capable of swelling the first layer. In another aspect, the article has a thickness of 10x and comprises a first polymeric backing layer (6) which contains a particulate filler, and has a thickness which is at least 0.13 mm and is 1x to 5x, and a second polymeric inner layer (8) which contains substantially no particulate filler, and has a thickness of 5x to 9x. Also disclosed is an assembly in which an article of the invention is in contact with a substrate (4), e.g., a pipe, a pier, or a support element for a structure. Articles of the invention are particularly useful in protecting steel pipes and gas risers from corrosion in areas such as the splash zone (18) in which they are subject to heavy wave action.

摘要： A heat shrinkable wrap-around sleeve comprises a heat shrinkable sheet with a heat stable strip welded on one end. The free end of the heat stable strip is overlapped on the outer side of the opposite end of the sheet and welded thereto by heating applied directly on the outer side. This allows the material of the strip to differ in its properties from the material of the sheet, so that the nature of welded closure can be tailored to particular applications. It also allows manufacture of sleeves having hold-down adhesives applied on them to be conducted with greater ease and economy. The sleeve can be manufactured using continuous welding, for example by heated wedge welding.

摘要： A transversely pleated, longitudinally heat-shrinkable tape is made from a heat-shrinkable polymeric film. One side of the tape may be adhesive-coated, and the other side may be coated with a thermochromic paint. The tape is wrapped around a substrate, and is particularly adapted, by reason of the pleats, to be wrapped around a substrate of non-uniform cross-section, e.g. a splice in a telephone cable. On heating the tape to its recovery temperature, the pleats disappear and the tape shrinks longitudinally to tightly cover the substrate. The tape may additionally comprise integral heating means.
