    • The present invention relates to a gas collecting system collecting an inspection objective gas, such as a toxic gas discharged into an ambient air, and particularly to a gas collecting system which can achieve down-sizing of the system and permit implementation of analysis of gas concentration of the inspection objective gas at high precision with simple operation. It has a simple construction with a portable air pump driven by a portable battery and sucking a gas within an inspection objective space, a collection vessel filled with a collecting liquid for collecting an inspection objective gas from the gas, an induction passage connected to the collection vessel at one end and communicated with the inspection objective space at the other end, for introducing the gas into the collection vessel, a suction passage connected to the collection vessel at one end and connected to a suction port of the air pump at the other end for introducing the gas within the collection vessel into the air pump, an accumulation body connected to a discharge port of the air pump, accumulating the gas discharged from the air pump and serving as a volumeter, drying means providing between the accumulation body and the collection vessel for drying the gas, a pressure switch detecting an internal pressure of the accumulation body, a bypass passage connecting the accumulation body to the suction port of the air pump by passing the collection vessel, and switching means for switching a flow path for connecting the accumulation body to one of the discharge port of the air pump and the bypass passage and connecting the discharge port of the air pump to an ambient air opening passage when the accumulation body is connected to the bypass passage. Therefore, respective of these components can be assembled in compact as a whole. Accordingly, the gas collecting system is portable with high transporting ability, requires assembling and adjustment of the components to permit simple collection of gas at an arbitrary place. Also, the system is simple in handling and requires no skill to permit anybody to use.

    • The present invention relates to a method for analyzing formaldehyde. More specifically, the invention relates to a method for analyzing formaldehyde in the ambient air which can collect formaldehyde gas in the ambient air and simply implement an analysis of concentration thereof. A method for analyzing formaldehyde in the ambient air according to the present invention comprises the steps of passing a given amount of air to be inspected through a collecting vessel filled with a given amount of 2N-KOH solution or 2N-KOH solution; filling a given amount of AHMT reagent in the collecting vessel and leaving the reagent for a given amount of time, setting a standard color solution to an absorptiometer for adjusting the indication value thereof to a predetermined value, adding a given amount of KIO4 reagent to the collecting vessel, and setting the collecting vessel to the absorptiometer to detect formaldehyde concentration from the indication value of the absorptiometer. The formaldehyde in the ambient air can be efficiently collected by 2N-KOH solution or 2N-NaOH solution. Furthermore, under a premise that a given amount of the air passes through the reaction vessel, by adjusting the indication value of the absorptiometer to the predetermined value by using a standard colored liquid, the indication value upon measurement of absorbance of an unknown sample can be directly read as the concentration of the formaldehyde. Accordingly, calculation using molecular weight of formaldehyde and volume conversion coefficients as gas and so forth become unnecessary, and expert knowledge and chemical calculation becomes unnecessary. In addition, transferring or division of the sampled solution becomes unnecessary, therefore requiring no skill in handling.
