摘要： High molecular weight, water-soluble, cross-linked cationic polymers are prepared by reacting amine-functionalized cationic base polymers, in which the monomer units of the base polymer contain from about 0.05 to about 5.0% amine functionalized monomer units and from about 95 to about 99.95% additional monomer units, including cationic monomer units and optional non-cationic monomer units, with an amount of a cross-linking agent, reactive with the amines of the base polymer, providing between about 0.02 to about 3.0 equivalents of cross-linking agent reactive groups per each mole of amine. The polymers are useful as coagulants and as coatings.

摘要： This invention relates to novel compositions of matter, fullerene graft amine-containing polymers, and the process of making them. The graft is made by reacting a fullerene with a primary or secondary amine-containing polymer, preferably a hydrocarbon containing polymer in effective amounts, typically from about 10:1 to about 1:10 mole ratio of reactive amine in polymer to fullerene for a time and under conditions effective to produce the compositions. Suitable starting polymers are those containing primary or secondary amino groups, e.g., EPDM amine, PIB-amine, PIBSA-PAM, and Mannich based polymers. The preferred polymers are oil soluble, as the novel compositions of that type may be used as viscosity modifiers and lube additives. The crosslinked compositions may be used in essentially any application as the original polymer, but in which an increase in tensile strength would be desired.

摘要： The fuel oil-substituted fullerene compositions of the invention are useful for improving the cold flow properties of fuels. Typically the substituted fullerenes have the general formula C.sub.Fn (GRy)x, where C.sub.Fn is a fullerene, n is the number of carbon atoms in the fullerene, x is an integer from 1 up to the maximum number of sites on the fullerene molecule available for adding substituent groups, G is a linking group that may be absent or present, and when present is an oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, phenol, aniline, Mannich base or diazocarboxylate-derived group, y is an integer determined by the identity of G, and when y equals 1 R is a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl group and when y equals 2 at most one R may be hydrogen while the remainder are hydrocarbyl groups, and the R group may be the same or different, and wherein when x is greater than 1 the GRy may be the same or different and at most one R may be hydrogen.Also included in the invention are additive concentrates, the substituted fullerenes in the fuel and a liquid carrier medium, and the method of using the substituted fullerenes to improve cold flow properties of fuels.

摘要： This invention relates to novel compositions of matter that are lube oils comprising an oil/hydrocarbon soluble fullerene grafted amine-containing polymers and a suitable base oil and, optionally other suitable additives for use as a lubricating oil. This invention also relates to the method of using the fullerene grafted amine-containing polymer itself as additives to base oils. The graft is made by reacting a fullerene with a primary or secondary amine-containing polymer, preferably hydrocarbon containing polymers. Suitable starting polymers are those containing primary or secondary amino groups, e.g., EPDM amine, PIB-amine, PIBSA-PAM, and Mannich based polymers. The lube oil compositions are made by adding an effective amount of the polymer, and optionally, other suitable additives to a base oil typically on an active ingredient basis of from about 0.01 to about 20 wt. %.

Typically the substituted fullerenes have the general formula:C.sub.Fn (GR.sub.y).sub.xIn the formula C.sub.Fn is a fullerene or mixture of fullerenes, n is the number of carbon atoms in the fullerene, x is an integer from 1 up to the maximum number of sites on the fullerene molecule available for adding substituent groups, G is a linking group that may be absent or present, and when present is an oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, phenol, aniline, Mannich base or diazocarboxylate-derived group, y is an integer determined by the identity of G and equals 1 when G is absent or when present and selected from the group consisting of oxygen, sulfur and diazocarboxylate-derived linking groups, and equals 1 or 2 when G is a phenol or aniline linking group, and equals 2 when G is a nitrogen linking group, and when y equals 1 R is a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl group and when y equals 2 at most one R may be hydrogen while the remainder are hydrocarbyl groups, and the R group may be the same or different, and wherein when x is greater than 1 the GR.sub.y may be the same or different and at most one R may be hydrogen. Preferred are substituted fullerenes that are alkylamino-substituted fullerenes. The compositions are useful as flow-improvers properties.
