    • An ink liquid supply system for an ink jet system printer includes a sub tank for introducing a new ink liquid from an ink liquid cartridge and an old ink liquid from a beam gutter included in the ink jet system printer. A float element is disposed in the sub tank, the float element having a specific gravity of, for example, 1.062 which is slightly greater than the specific gravity of a preferred ink liquid suited for the ink jet system printer. In the normal operation mode, the float element is positioned at the bottom of the sub tank. When the ink liquid viscosity increases, the float element moves upward. A detection unit is associated with the float element to develop a control signal when the float element moves upward. In response to the control signal, a dilution is added to the ink liquid contained in the sub tank in order to reduce the viscosity of the ink liquid.

    • A head for an ink-jet printer includes a plurality of ink chambers arranged in parallel on a plane, a plurality of nozzles communicated with each of the chambers, and a piezoelectric element. The piezoelectric element has a laminated structure in which at least one piezoelectric layer and at least two electrode layers sandwiching the piezoelectric layer are laminated, and is attached to the chambers so as to overlie the chambers with the layers being in parallel to the plane of arrangement of the chambers. The piezoelectric element includes a plurality of pressure portions and a plurality of slits. The slits face the chambers and deepen in a direction perpendicular to the plane of arrangement of the chamber so as to divide the pressure portions from other portion or the piezoelectric element such that each of the pressure portions attaches to each of the chambers at an area defined by the slits and that each of the pressure portions includes the laminated structure. Each of the pressure portion presses each of the chambers at the attaching area by an expansion due to a piezoelectric effect when an electric voltage is applied across the electrode layers in each of the pressure portions.

    • An ink-jet image-forming method having the steps of: setting image areas, each having a predetermined range, in association with respective dots, and calculating a black dot area rate representing the density of dots formed in each image area. In the case when, among these dots, a group of high-density dots corresponding to image areas in which the black dot area rate is greater than a predetermined value are printed, slow-drying ink and quick-drying ink are used. In the case when dots having a black dot area rate smaller than the predetermined value are printed, the slow-drying ink is used. Thus, it is possible to shorten the ink drying time, and also to prevent degradation in the image quality.
