摘要： An electrophotographic color image forming machine registers which a second color toner image on a first color toner image which has been previously formed on an image carrier to form a color image. The registered images are then transferred onto a recording sheet. The machine includes control apparatus that includes first and second exposure control modulators which respectively control an exposure amount of at least one of the first color toner images and the second color toner image. A smoothing processor controls at least one of a size and a position of at least one of the first and second color toner dot images within each of a plurality of pixels and a discriminator determines whether one of the size and the position of the dot image should be controlled. A hue corrector is provided which adjusts a ratio of the exposure amounts provided by the first and second exposure control modulators to control the first and second exposure control modulators on the basis of a discriminator result of the discriminator.

摘要： An image forming apparatus includes a sequence memory to store a sequence of an initialization processing to be conducted only at an installation of the apparatus, an adjuster to adjust the apparatus in accordance with the initialization, an apparatus status indicator to indicate whether the apparatus is new or not. The apparatus further includes a controller so that the adjuster adjusts the apparatus on the basis of the status of the indicator. A judging device judges whether to continue or stop the initialization process on the basis of a predetermined state of the apparatus such as whether a process unit is new or old or whether a cover is attached to a photoreceptor or not.

摘要： An image forming apparatus such as a printer or copier includes a photoreceptor for holding a latent image; a charger for charging the photoreceptor; an exposure unit such as an LED array for exposing the photoreceptor with light so as to form a latent image on the photoreceptor; and a developer placed in the vicinity of the photoreceptor, for developing the latent image with a developing agent so as to form a developing agent image on the photoreceptor. The developer includes a developing sleeve for holding the developing agent on its surface and a transferor for transferring the developing agent image on the photoreceptor to a recording medium. A cleaner is provided for cleaning a residual developing agent on the photoreceptor after the developing agent image is transferred to the recording medium and a purge control unit is provided for purging foreign matter from the developing agent on the developing sleeve. The purge control unit includes an attraction member for attracting foreign matter from the developing sleeve.
