    • According to one embodiment, an emission factor calculating apparatus includes a receiving unit, a received electricity (i.e., electric power) measuring unit, a generated electricity measuring unit, and an emission factor calculating unit. The receiving unit receives an emission factor of a higher-level system at first regular intervals. The received electricity measuring unit measures, as a received electricity, electricity received from the higher-level system and accumulated. The generated electricity measuring unit measures electricity generated with zero emission in a target system. The emission factor calculating unit calculates a substantial emission factor of the target system at regular intervals (i.e., at a fixed interval), based on a ratio between the received electricity and the measured electricity generated, and the emission factor of the higher-level system. The emission factor calculating unit informs a load or a lower-level system of the substantial emission factor.

    • The reading unit reads mapping information that maps a particular point in a document structure defined by XML schema to the name of a variable and a training XML document that includes a substitute character string positioned at a particular point and tags. A parser converts the training XML document into a sequence of events each specifying one of substitute character string and the tag names. The reading unit reads in an EXI grammar form. A code composer processes the sequence of events and generates an EXI event code based on the EXI grammar form, generates a function to retrieve the value of a variable mapped to the particular point at which the substitute character string is positioned when the event is an event specifying substitute character string, and produces an EXI encoder including output instruction codes to output EXI event codes and the retrieved value of the function.

    • Information that maps a point in XML document structure to a name of a variable and an EXI grammar form that includes grammars each defining relationship among an event representative of an element in the XML document structure, an EXI event code, and a next grammar for use are read. A selecting unit selects grammars in the EXI grammar form such that the grammars are traced in sequence. A determining unit updates a grammar stack which identifies a current position in the XML document structure each time a grammar is selected. If the updated stack does not indicates the point, a function setting unit sets a skip function for skipping a corresponding value in an EXI stream, otherwise, sets a read function for reading and providing the corresponding value to a corresponding variable. A composer generates an EXI decoder including skip and read functions set for individual grammars.
