    • An inertia locking connector including elements which provide resistance to fitting the male and female connectors together. A consistent operating feel is obtained, even if the locking arm is released by the user. A resistance arm, independent of the locking arm, engages a rib of the male connector. A detent which is engaged by the locking arm is located on the same surface of the male connector as is the rib. The latter acts as a temporary stop for the resistance arm. Therefore, the user must exert substantial increased pressure to cause the resistance arm to flex out of contact with the leading edge thereof. As a result, the increased force builds momentum in the moving connectors so that the locking arm rides positively over the detent into its proper locking position.

    • In a card edge connector, rotating pins are formed on the inner surfaces of the side walls of a box-shaped outer housing, while cylindrical bearings are formed on the outer surfaces of the side walls of inner housings in which electrically conductive terminals are accommodated. The inner housings are swingably held with the rotating pins engaged with the cylindrical bearings. The cylindrical bearings have cut-outs in the cylindrical walls which are opened in the direction of insertion, so that, as the inner housings are pushed into the outer housing, the rotating pins are engaged with the cylindrical bearings through the cut-outs. The inner housings are urged by spring members in such a manner that the abutting parts of the terminals are moved away from terminals formed on the connecting end portion of a printed circuit board. When the connecting end portion of the printed circuit board starts to enter the outer housing is started, the connecting end portion gently touches the abutting parts of the terminals. When the connecting end portion is fully pushed into the outer housing, introducing cams, which are formed on a hood surrounding the connecting end portion, cause the inner housings to swing towards the connecting end portion, so that the terminals are positively pushed against the abutting parts.

    • A card edge connector includes inner housings that accommodate electrically conducting terminals. The inner housings are rotatably supported within a box-like outer housing. A rotatable range is regulated by projected portions of the respective housings being abutted against each other, so that an opening of the outer housing is kept open to allow an end portion of a printed board to be inserted. In addition, the terminals do not come in contact with each other, so that the circuit is kept from being shorted. When the insertion of the end portion into the outer housing is started, the upper inner housing rides over the end portion slightly. However, as the end portion is further inserted to the depth of the outer housing, introducing cams formed on a hood enclosing the end portion cause the upper inner housing to rotate with a slight insertion force, thereby causing the terminals to be urged into full engagement with the end portion of the printed board.

    • Retaining members are formed separately from a female connector housing and can be installed on the female connector housing. A sealing member is installed within the female connector housing prior to the installation of the retaining members. The sealing member includes protrusions having retaining portions, which protrusions are inserted into guide channels of the female connector housing without bending. Then, the retaining members are installed on the female connector housing, and two protrusions of the retaining members engage with the retaining portions from opposite sides, whereby the sealing member is retained against removal. When the sealing members are installed, the protrusions and retaining portions are not elastically deformed, and therefore resistance during installation is reduced, and the installation can be easily carried out.

    • A connector assembly having a receiving housing, a fitting housing and a retainer. The fitting housing is inserted into the receiving housing and is held in engagement position by the retainer. However, if one or more electrical terminals, within cavities in the fitting housing, is not fully inserted into its locked position, the retainer is held in a temporary position wherein a portion thereof projects outwardly of the fitting housing. This portion engages the end face of the receiving housing. The end face is preferably perpendicular to the insertion direction or at an acute angle thereto. As a result, the receiving housing does not distort even if excessive insertion force is applied to the fitting housing and/or the retainer.

    • This invention prevents lowering of working efficiency and an abnormal deformation, a breakage and the like of conductive terminals upon coupling a printed circuit base plate to a card edge connector in a card edge connector assembly. When a card edge connector 10 is inserted into an mouth 4 in a base plate holder 1, sliding edge portions 27 ride on ramp faces 5a on ribs 5 to pivot a pair of inner housings 20. Then, contacting portions 22a of first terminals 22 engage with second terminals on opposite sides of a printed circuit base plate 2. The printed circuit base plate 2 enters smoothly between the contacting portions 22a without causing an elastic deformation in the portions 22a and gouging the plate 22 due to their contact.

    • A connector (A) has a housing (10), and a lock (15) is formed on the housing (20).
