    • A mirror assembly particularly adopted as a side view mirror for a vehicle, the assembly being provided a mirror, a mounting plate for supporting the mirror, a light assembly having a lens at one end, a visor for accommodating the mirror and the light assembly. A joint element pivotally mounts a side of the light assembly to the mounting plate. The visor has a visor opening into which the lens is fitted, and a connection element for movably connecting an end of the visor opening and an end of the lens. A bias element in the form of a spring pivotally biases the end of the light assembly having the lens such that the connection element substantially closes any gap between the visor opening and the lens.

    • A spring having four urging legs is fixed in a stay of a mirror, and retention pawls corresponding to the urging legs are formed at a base fixed within a passenger compartment of a vehicle. The urging legs engage with the retention pawls so that the stay is held at the base at a predetermined load. Because the four urging legs are provided on the spring, an urging force of the respective urging legs can be made small and bending of the urging legs is unobstructed by other members. Accordingly, when a load of predetermined value or greater acts upon the mirror, the urging legs corresponding to the direction in which the load acts slide and the engagement between all of the urging legs and the retention pawls is released. The mirror is allowed to fall regardless of the direction in which the load acts.

    • An EC panel drive unit for a rear-view mirror comprising a timer circuit 2 in which a drive signal is output for a fixed period of time when either a colored state switch SW1 or a colorless state switch SW2 is in the ON position; a D-type flip-flop circuit 9 that sends different output signals, depending on whether the colored state switch SW1 is in the ON position or the colorless state switch SW2 is in the ON position, and a colored/colorless state switching circuit 6 which switches the polarity of DC voltage that is output from a lithium battery based on the output from the D-type flip-flop circuit 9 and then applies the voltage to input terminals Ta and Tb of the EC panel 7. A contact SW2-3 is installed between the two input terminals, Ta and Tb, of the EC panel 7 for providing a short circuit between the two terminals when the colorless state switch SW2 is turned to the ON position.
