    • A hydraulic system for an electromechanical valve is provided. The system includes a housing defining a chamber for holding fluid extending along an axis. The system further includes a damper stem disposed in the chamber configured to move along the axis. The damper stem is configured to be directly coupled to the valve member. The system further includes a piston coupled to the damper stem dividing the chamber into a first chamber portion and a second chamber portion. The housing includes a conduit extending between the first chamber portion and the second chamber portion. The conduit has a first non-cylindrical opening communicating with the first chamber portion. When the piston moves past at least a portion of the non-cylinder opening, the cross-sectional area of the opening decreases to restrict fluid flow from the first chamber to reduce a velocity of the piston.

    • A hybrid driveline for an automotive vehicle comprising an internal combustion engine and a power transmission mechanism for transferring torque to the traction wheels of the vehicle. An electric starter motor/alternator unit is situated between the torque input element of the automatic transmission and the crankshaft of the engine. A wet clutch disc assembly receives torque from the engine through a damper assembly. The torque output side of the clutch is connected to the rotor of the motor/alternator unit, which in turn is connected driveably to the torque input shaft of the transmission. The damper attenuates peak torque fluctuations of the internal combustion engine, thereby reducing the maximum torque transmitting requirements of the clutch. The damper and the clutch are arranged in a compact assembly within the stator and rotor of the motor/alternator unit.

    • A continually variable transmission includes an input shaft, an output shaft and a first drive mechanism having a first input on a first axis and a first output on a second axis. The first drive mechanism produces a fixed ratio of the speed of the first input to the speed of the first output. The first input drives the first output without a member on an intervening axis. A second drive mechanism is arranged in parallel with the first drive mechanism, having a second input and second output, for producing a stepless, continually variable range of ratios of the speed of the second input to the speed of the second output. A mode clutch alternately driveably connects and releases either the members of a first group consisting of the first input and second input or the members of a second group consisting of the first output and second output. A mechanism is provided for driving the output shaft in the same direction as the input shaft and for reversing the direction of rotation of the output shaft relative to the direction of rotation of the input shaft.
