A chamber 140 is defined by an inner wall 124 of the hollow cylindrical member 120 and the endbells 172, and filled with a predetermined amount of liquid 180 to absorb heat from the hollow cylindrical member 120, thereby homogenizing temperature across the hollow cylindrical member 120, enhancing resistance against temperature increase when subjected to elevated temperatures, enabling dimensional stability of the pressure roller 100 in spite of temperature change, homogenizing temperature of media, and preventing wrinkling.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pivoting cleaning blade with reduced failure.SOLUTION: A pivot mechanism is designed such that an instantaneous center of rotation of a blade holder 300 of a blade 210 located in its operational position to a photoreceptor 108 is positioned above a plane where a blade tip contacts the photoreceptor and upstream the blade tip, or below the contact plane and downstream the blade tip. These configurations result in a reduction in a blade load as a friction coefficient between the blade and the photoreceptor increases, and in a slower increase in photoreceptor torque. By a careful choice of the location of the center of rotation, the blade load can be maintained at a sufficiently high value for good cleaning within an expected range of friction coefficients.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and/or method for improving reliability of a cleaning blade by changing a shape of part of the blade which interacts with a surface to be cleaned.SOLUTION: There is provided an apparatus which comprises a cleaning unit with a blade holder that rotates about a rotational axis, and a cleaning blade is coupled to the blade holder and is positioned to chisel excess toner from a photoreceptor surface. Geometrical changes produce a blade having a plurality of slanted surfaces at the working end of the blade at one obtuse angle in the range of 93 degrees to 97 degrees, and the other working end at an acute angle that forms an offset point between the cleaning edge and the intersection of the two angles. A double cut allows for improvement in the cleaning tip stiffness using the first cut, while the second cut increases the contact width and improves the pressure distribution at the working edge.
