    • An interconnect circuit, system, and method for providing operating modes for communication channels is disclosed. According to one aspect, a method of determining an operating mode for a communication link can include providing an operating parameter within a memory device. The operating parameter can be provided in association with a channel characteristic of a communication channel. The method can further include reading the operating parameter stored within the memory device and communicating the operating parameter to a communication interface. The method can also include comparing the operating parameter to a performance limit of the communication interface and establishing an operating mode of the communication link in response to the comparison.

    • A single group of signals interfaces a computer system to either an analog display or a digital display. A video signal in digital format and a video signal in analog format are both supplied to a circuit that multiplexes the digital signal and the analog signal, generating an appropriate output signal for the display, either analog or digital, that is coupled to the computer system. In one example, the signal connector interfaces the computer system to either an analog CRT display or a digital FPD display. The multiplexer multiplexes the analog signal and the digital signal supplied by the computer system and generates an output signal that is suitable for the CRT display or the FPD display, depending on the type of display coupled to the computer system.

    • Processing components to manufacture information handling systems have build-to-order integrated circuits with plural selectively-enabled features set at the information handling system manufacture location. For instance, fuses integrated in the integrated circuits are selectively blown at the information handling system manufacture location to permanently disable features so that the processing components have a desired configuration. As another example, feature enable or disable states are programmed in flash incorporated in the integrated circuit, with the flash programmability subsequently disabled to permanently set the features so that the processing components have a desired configuration. Features are set with keys provided by the processing component manufacturer to track the information handling system manufacturer's use of the features.

    • A system and method is disclosed for a distributed out-of-band (OOB) management controller system enabling efficient usage of power while providing multiple methods and levels of communication between intelligent devices. Two or more management controllers collaboratively operate in a predetermined manner including, but not limited to, peer-to-peer, master/slave, or independently. Management information consistency is maintained across a system's power states by implementing distributed intelligent devices that directly interact as communication devices to local or remote management consoles. A management protocol is implemented such that management information is communicated between managed elements and management controllers over physical interfaces or via a network connection. A first management controller is implemented to communicate with managed elements via a bus that is available only when the system is under full power and a second controller is implemented to communicate with the same managed elements for most power states, including low power. The second management controller remains operable to generate simple management information packets or use packets stored in communications devices to generate primitive or higher-level alert functions.
