摘要： A device (100) for detecting a condition in a fluid system (14) and initiating a response based on the condition. The device consists of a sensor (12) that responds to a first and second condition of the fluid (13) in the system and a control means (10) that receives the responses and generates command signals in based on the received response. In a liquid chromatography system, the device is used to determine the volume of components of the fluid system. In addition, the device allow leaks to be detected and permits the fluid in the system to be transported at a optimum speed. The device is well implemented utilizing to a light emitter and light receptor that are sensitive to the fluid in either a gaseous or liquid state.

摘要： A method for processing a fluid is applied to systems that include a valve unit that has a sample-loading state and a sample-injecting state. The sample-loading state disposes a sample loop in fluidic communication with a sample conduit. The sample-injecting state disposes the sample loop in fluidic communication with a process conduit. The method involves transferring a sample through both the sample conduit and the valve unit so that a leading end of the sample exits the valve unit. After transitioning the valve unit to the sample-loading state and allowing the sample loop to decompress, at least some of the transferred sample is loaded into the sample loop. A fluid-processing instrument includes a value unit and a control unit that manages operation of the instrument. The control unit is configured, for example, to implement the above-described method.

摘要： A device comprising a pressure monitor and a control means that receives a signal representing measured pressure at the pressure monitor and controls the controllable elements of a fluid system is utilized to monitor a fluid system for error conditions, to optimize operations and to diagnose the fluid system. By following a testing protocol that selectively enables parts of the system, the control means narrows the list of possible failing components. Comparing the measured pressure against normal pressures allows the device to identify error conditions. Determining the volume of fluid being transported and controlling the duration of the flow optimizes operation of the fluid system.

摘要： The present invention is a pressurized fluid sample injector system consisting of a sample needle (14), multiport valve (16), sample loop (18), metering syringe (20) and a pressure assist pump (38). The speed of sample transport into the sample loop (18) is increased by pressurizing the fluid in the system and metering the sample into the sample loop (18). The elevated system pressure allows the fluids to be moved faster than the vapor pressure would normally allow in a system at ambient pressure.

One embodiment of the device for controlling the flow of fluid comprises a rotor, stator and compression means. 摘要： Described is an apparatus for reducing a temperature variation of a liquid chromatography sample. A tray drive using at least one of linear or rotational motion moves a sample tray along a path inside a sample compartment of the liquid chromatography system. A control module coordinates the movement of the sample tray by the tray drive and the movement of a sample needle by a needle drive so that any sample in the sample tray can be injected into the mobile phase of the system during a sample load operation. The tray drive is also used to move the sample tray along the path during a temperature averaging period when no loading occurs. Differences in sample temperatures due to variations in the air temperature at different locations inside the sample compartment are reduced, leading to more accurate and repeatable chromatographic measurement results.

摘要： Described are techniques for force sensing. A computing device is configured to have a desired force setting. A first vertical position of a needle is determined using the computer device. A control signal is sent from the computing device to a positioning device. In response to the control signal, the needle is positioned at the first vertical position. When in the first vertical position, surfaces of a tip of the needle are in contact with surfaces of an opening of a sealing member and positioning the needle causes application of a force at surfaces of the opening in contact with surfaces of the tip of the needle. In response to application of the force, a spring is compressed a distance that is proportional to the force. The force is measured using a force sensor.

摘要： Described is an apparatus for controlling a position of a sample in a liquid chromatography system. The apparatus includes a rotary drive mechanism, a stepper motor and a rotational coupling system such as a drive belt and pulley system. The rotational coupling system transfers the rotational motion of a motor shaft to a shaft of the rotary drive mechanism. Advantageously, the stepper motor is remote to the sample compartment for improved safety in the event that volatile gas accumulates within the sample compartment. The rotary drive mechanism can be configured in a small form factor and can provide highly stable rotation of an attached sample tray to accommodate the requirements of compact liquid chromatography systems. In addition, leakage from inside the sample compartment to the ambient environment is substantially reduced or eliminated, resulting in better thermal control of the sample compartment.
