    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reagent, method and apparatus for effectively isolating cellular components such as ribonucleic acid (RNA) from cells.
      SOLUTION: Provided are a reagent, method and apparatus for isolating cellular components such as RNA from cells in a liquid solution. The apparatus comprises (i) a holder containing RNA extractant solvent, a plurality of micron-sized particles and at least one of larger particles; (ii) a cover assembly removably fastened onto the holder and having a cavity therein which is of sufficient volume to contain the liquid medium and the extraction solvent; and (iii) a friable sealing layer adapted to be broken by the larger particle upon reciprocating motion of the container, the sealing layer being adapted to separate the extractant solvent from the liquid medium until the sealing layer is broken by the larger particle.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reagent, a method and a device for the efficient isolation of cellular components such as ribonucleic acid (RNA) from cells.
      SOLUTION: The reagent, method and device for isolation of cellular components such as ribonucleic acid (RNA) from cells in a liquid solution. This device comprises (i) a holder having an RNA extraction solvent, micrometer size particles, and at least one large particle, (ii) a cover-assembling portion which is detachably attached to the holder and has a cavity having a volume enough to contain the liquid culture solution and the extraction solvent, and (iii) a fragile closing layer which is adapted to be broken with the large particles on the reciprocating movement of the device and is adapted to separate the extraction solvent from the liquid culture solution, until the closing layer is broken with the large particles.
