摘要： An endoscope, such as a colonoscope is provided which has a main body having a distal end for insertion into a colon, and a proximal end, and viewing optics having a viewing port at or adjacent the distal end of the main body, whereby to view a region distal of the viewing port. A liquid conduit is provided which has a distal end portion with at least one outlet at or adjacent the distal end of the main body, and a proximal end portion arranged, in use, to receive a supply of liquid. The at least one outlet is arranged to direct the liquid to clean the colon or other cavity in the region being viewed.

摘要： A device is provided for use in joining together first and second tissue layers. The device comprises a catheter (7) with an inflatable balloon (8) mounted on the catheter adjacent one end thereof. An inflation channel is provided which is in fluid communication with the interior of the balloon (8) and with a source of inflation fluid, for introducing the inflation fluid into the interior of the balloon (8). The balloon (8) is inflated and engages an outwardly facing surface of the first tissue layer and a tissue-engaging member, for example a cup (10) or another balloon, engages an outwardly facing surface of the second tissue layer. The inwardly facing surfaces of the first and second tissue layers are thereby urged into engagement with one another.

摘要： An endoscope, more particularly a colonoscope, is provided for introduction into and along a passageway in a human or animal body in a desired direction of travel, the endoscope having a fluid propulsion device for effecting introduction. The fluid propulsion device comprises a conduit having an inlet for fluid under pressure and at least one outlet for expelling the fluid in a direction at least partly opposed to the desired direction of travel of the endoscope. The outlets may be atomising nozzles. The conduit may be movable lengthwise of the endoscope, but constrained to substantially follow the path of the endoscope. In one embodiment the endoscope is caused to travel over a pre-installed guidewire.

摘要： A surgical device is provided for use in joining a first tissue layer forming a first hollow region and a second tissue layer forming a wall of a second hollow region, to produce an anastomosis. The device comprises a needle capable of passing from the first region to the second region by penetrating the tissue layers, a tag removably carried by the needle, the tag having a trailing portion, and means for separating the tag from the needle after the needle has penetrated both layers, to leave the tag in the second hollow region, but with the trailing portion extending into the first hollow region. Anastomosis forming articles are described which comprise a pair of components for compressing the tissue layers between them.

摘要： Devices and methods are provided which may be used for suturing, including performing a totally transoral surgical procedure, such as a posterior gastropexy procedure. A suture lock and cut assembly is provided to lock and cut one or more sutures in one motion, which motion can be a non-curved, non rotational linear motion. The suture lock and cut assembly with one or more sutures threaded therethrough may be pushed through, for example, a patient's esophagus and into the stomach by the tip of an endoscope, or alternatively, sized to be fed through the working channel of the endoscope.

摘要： A method is described of inserting guide wires into a lumen, for example into the human gastrointestinal tract. A guide wire structure is employed which comprises at least two guide wires (1, 2) each having a leading end portion which terminates in a leading end, the guide wires being connected to one another by a junction (3) at or adjacent their leading ends, the guide wires have a first position in which the leading end portions are substantially parallel to one another, a second position in which theleading end portions are curved, and a third position in which at least one of the leading end portions forms a loop. The guide wire structure is steered through the gastrointestinal tract by selectively advancing or retracting a single guide wire or advancing more than one guide wire simultaneously, according to the path which is required to be followed.
