    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel piping structure suppressing pulsation of fuel pressure in each fuel supply system in a fuel supply device for a vehicle provided with a plurality of the fuel supply systems to an internal combustion engine.
      SOLUTION: Fuel piping 190 and 12 lead fuel to a low pressure fuel supply system 11 and a high pressure fuel supply system 12 for injecting fuel to the engine 10 arranged in a vehicle front zone 600F respectively from a fuel tank 165 arranged in a vehicle rear zone 600R. Pipe length between the low pressure fuel supply system 11 and the high pressure fuel supply system 12 is secured by providing a branch point Na of the fuel piping 190 and 192 near the fuel tank 165. Consequently, fuel pressure fluctuation in the low pressure fuel supply system 11 due to influence of fuel returned to the fuel piping 192 from a high pressure fuel pump 200 of the high pressure fuel supply system 12 can be suppressed.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect an abnormal part with a simple method when abnormality occurs in a fuel system. SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine is operated in a plurality of operational conditions with different discharge amount of a fuel pump per hour to detect the pressure difference between the fuel pressure supplied to a fuel injection valve and the pressure which should be pressurized with a fuel pump. When the detected pressure difference decreases as the fuel discharge amount per hour increases, it is determined that a fuel leakage has occurred downstream of the pump. Since the amount of the fuel leakage is almost constant per hour at the time of leak occurrence, the influence by the leakage becomes relatively smaller with a increase in the discharge amount of the pump, so that the leakage downstream of the pump can be detected.
