    • The pressure between a developing roller and a photosensitive drum is set to 0.24 MPa. Because the pressure is smaller than 0.31 MPa, if the potential difference ΔV between the non-image forming part on the photosensitive drum and the electrically-charged polymer toner on the surface of the developing roller is at the preset proper voltage (300 volts), pressure fogging will be prevented. Because the pressure is 0.24 MPa or less, even if the potential difference varies within the range of 200 volts to 400 volts that occurs in practice, pressure fogging will be prevented. By resetting the pressure to 0.22 MPa, even if the potential difference ΔV varies in a wider voltage range of 100 to 400 volts, pressure fogging will be prevented. In this way, by setting the pressure between the developing roller and the photosensitive drum appropriately, pressure fogging can be prevented even when using the opposite-direction developing method and polymer toner.

    • A control section sets the transfer bias level applied between a transfer roller and a photosensitive drum in the printer to a “ghost generation level.” The control section forms a test pattern on the recording medium by applying a transfer bias set to the ghost generation level in order to transfer a toner image onto the recording medium. A density sensor detects the density of the toner image deposited in a non-image-forming region when the test pattern is formed. The control section estimates a transfer bias level, at which ghosts will not occur, based on the ghost generation level and the density level of the toner image in the non-image-forming region, and sets this estimated value as the transfer bias level for forming images.

    • A pressure sensor 16 has a length C and a width D identical respectively to a length A and a width B of a fluid pumping section 11 and is provided in a portion of a cover 15 opposite to the fluid pumping section 11. The fluid pumping section 11 has a structure for pressing a tube placed in a groove 13 by means of fingers which advance and retract in a cavity 14 formed in a wall 12 of a main body. A possible erroneous placement of the tube is detected according to a change of pressure force exerted from each of the fingers, detected by the pressure sensor 16 . The pressure sensor 16, which is provided within a range in which the fingers can press the tube, can detect even a slight displacement, of the tube from the range in which the fingers can press the tube, to thereby allow detection of erroneous tube placement free of a dead zone to be achieved.

    • A vehicle seat is disclosed which is provided on its surface with a plurality of intersecting, recessed grooves for decoration. The seat includes a cushion member formed of a foam material and provided on its surface with a plurality of intersecting, recessed grooves. Projections are provided adjacent to the intersections of these recessed grooves, respectively. Such projections can prevent wrinkles from being produced in the intersections of the decorative recessed grooves formed in a top member which is a component of the seat. Specifically, when such top member placed over the cushion member is hung in along the recessed grooves of the cushion member, the recessed grooves for decoration are formed on the surface of the top member. During this hang-in operation, the projections are compressed so that repelling resilient forces are produced in these projections. Such resilient forces of the projections prevent any wrinkles from occurring in the intersections of the decorative recessed grooves in the top member.
