    • The pressure between a developing roller and a photosensitive drum is set to 0.24 MPa. Because the pressure is smaller than 0.31 MPa, if the potential difference ΔV between the non-image forming part on the photosensitive drum and the electrically-charged polymer toner on the surface of the developing roller is at the preset proper voltage (300 volts), pressure fogging will be prevented. Because the pressure is 0.24 MPa or less, even if the potential difference varies within the range of 200 volts to 400 volts that occurs in practice, pressure fogging will be prevented. By resetting the pressure to 0.22 MPa, even if the potential difference ΔV varies in a wider voltage range of 100 to 400 volts, pressure fogging will be prevented. In this way, by setting the pressure between the developing roller and the photosensitive drum appropriately, pressure fogging can be prevented even when using the opposite-direction developing method and polymer toner.

    • An image forming apparatus includes: a plurality of development units having developing-agent carriers which are provided in correspondence to three or more developing agents, and developing electrostatic latent images on surfaces of image carriers to form developing-agent images on the image carriers; and a recovery unit that recovers the developing agent adhering to the developing-agent carrier during non-development operation. The recovery unit is provided for at least the development unit other than the development unit that transfers the developing-agent image first in sequence among the plurality of development units. When one of the plurality of development units performs development by the developing agent whose charge capability is higher than that of the developing agent of the development unit that transfers the developing-agent image later in sequence, the recovery unit starts recovery of the developing agent or performs recovery operation for improving recovery capability of the developing agent.

    • In order to apply bias to a charging roller for charging a surface of a photoconductive drum uniformly, a power supply roller, which rotates while contacting with a surface of the charging roller, is provided. Brushes may be provided on the surface of the power supply roller. Further, by providing a member for removing a toner and sheet particles adhering to the surfaces of the charging roller and the power supply roller, the surface of the charging roller can be maintained in a clean condition and the surface of the photoconductive drum can be charged statically and uniformly.

    • An image recording apparatus has an exposing device in which the light from a light source is irradiated to an original text and a photosensitive, pressure-sensitive paper is exposed to the light from the text in correspondence to the image of the text. The image recording apparatus is designed so that the light source and the photosensitive, pressure-sensitive paper have a relative movement by means of a movement device, with the moving speed being varied by means of a moving speed control device. The duration of exposure of the photosensitive, pressure-sensitive paper by the exposing device is varied in response to the moving speed, whereby the level of exposure can be varied. Accordingly, this image recording apparatus, which is simple in structure, accomplishes a variable exposure level for the photosensitive, pressure-sensitive paper without the need of varying the light output of the light source and regardless of the type of the light source.
