    • A machine tool having a grinding wheel for grinding a workpiece mounted on a table. The machine tool is provided with a truing apparatus for truing the grinding wheel and a measuring device for measuring the diameter of the grinding wheel after every truing operation. Both of the truing apparatus and the measuring device are mounted on a movable base. The movable base is moved between its retract position at the outside of the table and a forward position above the table. The movable base is move to the forward position to bring the truing apparatus and the touch sensor into predetermined positions for truing and measuring operations. After the truing and measuring operations, the movable base is moved away from the table and is retracted to its retract position. The truing apparatus is provided with a truer support shaft whose rotational shaft intersects with a horizontal plane with an angle of 45.degree., and a truer attached to the truer support shaft. The truer has a cylindrical abrasive layer formed at periphery thereof and extending along a conical plane having a top angle of 90.degree..

    • A grinding wheel which is formed from super hard abrasive grains is trued by traverse-feeding a truing tool a plurality of times (n). Among the (n) traverse feeds of the truing tool, every traverse feed except for the final (i.e., from the first to the (n-l)th traverse feed) is carried out with an infeed which is set at a relatively small value in order to remove any deflection of the grinding wheel. In the final traverse feed, the infeed of the truing tool is set at a relatively large value in order to form an excellent cutting edge on the grinding wheel. Accordingly, any deflection of the grinding wheel is removed by a plurality of traverse feeds of the truing tool carried out with a relatively small infeed, and a cutting face having an excellent cutting ability is formed on the grinding wheel by the final traverse feed carried out with a relatively large infeed.

    • When a flow of a working medium stagnates in an expander or evaporator of a Rankine cycle apparatus including a closed working medium circulation circuit, a high pressure exceeding an allowable maximum pressure level of the expander or evaporator is produced within the closed working medium circulation circuit. In such a case, the water-phase working medium is first discharged via relief valves out of the circulation circuit, so that the pressure within the circulation circuit can be lowered. Then, once vapor within the evaporator, having been lowered in temperature and pressure, flows backward within the closed working medium circulation circuit, the vapor is also discharged via the relief valves out of the circulation circuit. In this way, the pressure within the expander or evaporator can be reliably prevented from exceeding the allowable maximum pressure level.

    • A heat exchanger has heat exchange members for performing heat exchanging with a fluid to flow along surfaces thereof. Fins are fixed, at only one end thereof in the direction of flow of the fluid, to the respective heat exchange members in a cantilevered manner. Each of the fins has a piezoelectric material layer laminated on at least one of the surfaces of each fin. Vibrations are given to the fins, with the fixed end thereof operating as a fulcrum, by applying an alternating voltage to the piezoelectric material layer such that the fins are extended and contracted in the direction of the flow of the fluid. As a modified example, each fin may be provided at its rear end with a weight. Piezoelectric actuators are disposed inside a frame in which the heat exchanger is contained, in a manner to pinch the heat exchanger in a vertical direction. By causing the actuators to vibrate, the fins are also vibrated.
