摘要： A color cathode ray tube has a phosphor screen and an in-line electron gun. Each of the focus electrode and the anode of has a single opening for passing three electron beams. The single opening has a diameter larger in a horizontal direction than a diameter thereof in a vertical direction. Each of the focus electrode and the anode has a plate electrode placed therein and forming apertures for passing the three electron beams respectively. The focus electrode and the anode forms a main lens therebetween. The distance from the main lens to the phosphor screen is 360 mm or less, the outside diameter T in mm of the neck portion of the evacuated envelope housing the electron gun satisfies 23.5 mm.ltoreq.T.ltoreq.25.3 mm, the value D in mm of twice the distance from the center of a trajectory of a side electron beam to a vertical edge of the single opening in each of the focus electrode and the anode satisfies 6.5 mm

The focus electrode includes a first focus and second focus sub-electrodes on this order from the cathode structure. The first focus sub-electrode has plural vertical parallel plate-like electrodes arranged to sandwich respective beam apertures in an end thereof facing the second focus sub-electrode in a direction of a beam arrangement, and the second focus sub-electrode has plural horizontal parallel plate-like electrodes arranged to sandwich beam apertures in an end thereof facing the first focus sub-electrode in a direction perpendicular to the beam arrangement, one of the first and second focus sub-electrodes is adapted to be supplied with a voltage varying in synchronism with beam deflection. Due to such a constitution of the present invention, non-uniformity of the beam spot shape attributed to a deflection quantity can be reduced whereby the optimum focusing can be realized over the whole area of a screen.

The orbits of the two side ones of the three electron beams passing through the main lens have a constant gap S from the orbit of the center electron beam. The relations of H=2(S+R) and R>S hold, if the distance between the orbits of the two side electron beams and the inner circumference, as taken in the one direction, of the electrodes constituting the main lens is designated at R.

摘要： An in-line type electron gun assembly has a cathode unit for producing a central electron beam and two side electron beams and first and second electrode units. Each of the first and second electrode units has a cylindrical member of a non-circular elongated cross section and a plate member provided on the inner wall of the cylindrical member so as to be joined therewith to define three electron beam passage holes juxtaposed, within the cylindrical member, in a direction parallel with a lengthwise direction of the elongated cross section of the cylindrical member. The plate member of each electrode unit has at least one hole therein serving as an electron beam passage hole for the central electron beam. The diameter of the hole in one of the plate members of the first and second electrode units measured in a direction perpendicular to the lengthwise direction of the elongated cross section of the cylindrical members is different from the diameter of the corresponding hole in the other plate member measured in a direction perpendicular to the lengthwise direction of the elongated cross section of the cylindrical members for optimizing the central electron beam shape and for emphasizing one of a focusing and diverging function.
