摘要： The present disclosure relates to processes and methods for producing a hydrophobic zone boundary that surrounds a hydrophilic porous material layer mounted on a substrate, the hydrophilic porous material layer containing tortuous channels and pores such that the fluid contained within one hydrophilic layer region does not cross the hydrophobic zone boundary and the articles formed thereby and, more particularly, to processes and methods for producing a hydrophobic zone boundary that separates adjacent regions of a hydrophilic porous material layer mounted on a substrate, the hydrophilic porous material layer containing tortuous channels and pores mounted on a substrate such that a uniform hydrophobic zone boundary layer in the z-direction is formed in the hydrophilic porous material or the removal of the hydrophilic porous material layer from the substrate to form a hydrophilic porous material zone on the substrate, the so formed hydrophilic porous material zone having a predetermined geometric shape such that the combination produced thereby is useful in microarray applications and other applications. Methods of making and using discrete zoned microporous nylon coated glass plateforms for use with microwell plates are also disclosed.

摘要： Improved composite microarray slides for use in micro-analytical diagnostic applications are disclosed. Specifically, composite microarray slides useful for carrying a microarray of biological polymers on the surface thereof including composite microarray slides having a porous membrane formed by a phase inversion process effectively attached by covalent bonding through chemical agents that comprise anchor/linker moieties to a substrate that prepares the substrate to sufficiently bond to the porous membrane formed by a phase inversion process such that the combination produced thereby is useful in microarray applications and wherein the composite microarray slides are covalently bonded to a solid base member, such as, for example, a glass or Mylar microscope slide, such that the combination produced thereby is useful in microarray applications. Apparatus and methods for fabricating the composite microarray slides are also disclosed.

摘要： A method of prevention or treatment of a cholesterol-associated tumor is provided which comprises administering a therapeutically effective amount of an azetidinone-based cholesterol absorption inhibitor, preferably ezetimibe (SCH 58235) and/or its phenolic glucuronide, or at least one ezetimibe analog, e.g., SCH 48461 and SCH 58053, to a patient wherein the patient is either at risk of developing a cholesterol-associated tumor or already exhibits a cholesterol-associated tumor. Formulations of ezetimibe are also provided for the prevention or treatment of a cholesterol-associated tumor further comprising at least one other anticancer agent. An article of manufacture is also provided which comprises a container, instructions, and a composition, wherein the composition comprises a therapeutically effective amount of an azetidinone-based cholesterol absorption inhibitor, preferably ezetimibe or its phenolic glucuronide, and the instructions are for the administration of the composition for the prevention or treatment of a cholesterol-associated tumor.

摘要： A method for producing a homogeneous and stable dispersion of ultrafine non-polar particles in a ternary polymer/solvent/non-solvent solution (dope) suitable for phase inversion formation into a controlled pore size microporous polymer membrane wherein the polymer contains homogeneously distributed ultrafine non-polar particles is disclosed. In one possible embodiment, the ultrafine non-polar particles are ultrasonically dispersed in at lest one portion of the solvent and is then added to the balance of an optionally separately prepared solvent/non-solvent solution. Subsequently, the polymer is added to and dissolved in the solvent/non-solvent/particle dispersion with the resulting solution being cast into a liquid film and subjected to phase inversion processing is disclosed The resulting polymeric microporous membranes containing highly dispersed and homogeneously distributed ultrafine non-polar particles are also disclosed.
