    • A fluid collection device for collecting fluid leaking from the uterus of a patient during endometrial ablation includes a collar which is mounted on a catheter of an endometrial ablation device. The collar defines with the catheter of the ablation device an interior fluid collection area. The collar has a first open end which allows leaking fluid to pass therethrough into the collection area, and is dimensioned so as to be closely contactable with the cervix of the patient undergoing treatment. Any fluid leaking from the uterus of the patient during the ablation process will be captured by the collection area of the collar. A drain tube connected to the collar removes any fluid collected by the collar. The fluid collection device removes any fluid passing from the uterus to the cervix before it may enter the vagina of the patient to cause burns or damage to the vaginal tissue lining.

The energy conducting applicator includes, at the proximal end, a connection to one or more electrical energy sources. The energy conducting applicator directs electrical energy from the one or more electrical energy sources to the distal end. The energy conducting applicator includes an outer conductor and an inner conductor extending to the distal end. The outer conductor and the inner conductor are separated by a gap. The outer conductor includes a plurality of moveable outer segments and the inner conductor includes a plurality of moveable inner segments. The plurality of outer segments and the plurality of inner segments form a total contact surface at the distal end. The total contact surface is positionable at a surface of an eye. The electrical energy is applied to the eye according to the total contact surface.

    • An improved system and method for controlling ozone concentration in connection with a multi-chamber tool. The system and method involve a first and a second concentration controller in combination with an ozone generator. The first concentration controller detects an EVENT (i.e., one of the chambers in the multi-chamber tool coming on-line or off-line) and in response provides a power instruction to the ozone generator in accordance with a predictive control algorithm. The first concentration controller has a fast (i.e, about 1 second) response time. The second concentration controller is masked from the ozone generator during the EVENT, but otherwise controls the generator after an interval of time has lapsed after the EVENT. The second concentration controller has a slower response time than the first concentration controller, however the second concentration controller provides the system with long-term stability and can be used to provide updated data to the predictive control algorithm.

    • A surgical cutting and tissue vaporizing instrument, also referred to as an electrosurgical instrument, is in the form of a scalpel or scissors. The scalpel has a handle portion and a blade portion mounted on the handle portion. The blade portion has a smaller front section which acts as an active electrode, a larger rear section which acts as a return electrode, and an insulating middle section separating the two electrodes. A plurality of ports and conduits are formed in the blade portion, with the conduits extending through the handle portion, so that saline may be supplied to the handle and blade portions and out of the ports to the targeted area for tissue transection, and so that excess saline may be drawn by suction through other ports formed on the blade portion. The scissors include two cross-pivotally joined blades, each having a tip portion functioning as either an active electrode or as a return electrode. Ports and conduits are formed in each blade to elute saline onto the targeted area for tissue transection and to remove by suction excess saline from the targeted area.
