    • A method and an apparatus are proposed for controlling the quantity of exhaust gas recirculated from the exhaust gas system of an internal combustion engine to its intake side. The aspirated air quantity is compared with a set-point value formed in accordance with load and rpm, and if the deviation is greater than a minimum amount, control pulses for two magnetic valves are formed, which are triggered alternatively depending upon the polarity of the deviation and which further cause pressure to be delivered from two pressure sources having different pressure levels into the work chamber of a pneumatically functioning adjusting member of a dosing valve for exhaust gas recirculation. The opening duration of a given valve is dependent on the magnitude of the deviation from the set-point, and the valve remains completely open until a counteracting correction takes place if the deviation from the set-point exceeds a predetermined maximum amount. The control pulses formed in the range between a minimum and a maximum deviation from the set-point are carried further to the magnetic valves after the elapse of a predetermined waiting period (T.sub.W). The waiting period may be made dependent on rpm.

    • An apparatus for damping bounce-induced oscillations in an internal combustion engine having a fuel metering control for supplying fuel to the engine in accordance with various operational signals, which includes an engine speed sensor for generating an rpm signal proportional to the engine rpm, a signal differentiation circuit for producing an rpm differential signal from the rpm signal, and a phase-shifting circuit, connected to receive the rpm differential signal, for supplying to the fuel metering control a bounce damping signal which is proportional to the rpm differential signal and which is phase-displaced with respect to the rpm differential signal so that the fuel metering control supplies fuel to the engine to countercontrol the bounce-induced oscillations of the engine. In a preferred embodiment, the phase-shifting circuit includes a controllable dead time element for varying the phase displacement in accordance with the bounce frequency so as to compensate for the total system transit time of the apparatus, to thus effect countercontrolling of the bounce oscillations which is correctly phased and correct in frequency.

    • A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines, in particular an in-line injection pump for Diesel engines, is proposed having an injection quantity governor and an electrically driven feed pump, in which in order to assure an emergency shutoff in the event of a malfunction of the injection quantity governor, a check valve, the forward flow direction of which is toward a suction chamber filled with fuel by the feed pump, is disposed between the pressure-side outlet of the feed pump and the suction chamber. An emergency shutoff device responding to a malfunction switches off the feed pump drive, so that because of the lack of feed pressure the check valve closes and blocks off the suction chamber. The engine comes to a stop, as soon as a partial vacuum is established in the suction chamber, which occurs as soon as several revolutions later.
