    • A humidifier with an integrated bacteriostat dispenser is disclosed. In one embodiment, a hand-operated bacteriostat pump is mounted on the humidifier housing and dispenses a predetermined amount of bacteriostat into the water tray of the humidifier when operated upon. In another embodiment, the bacteriostat automatically dispenses an amount of bacteriostat appropriate for the amount of water discharged from a water bottle into the water tray. In this embodiment, a chamber is defined for holding bacteriostat. A regulator keeps the amount of bacteriostat in the chamber at a predetermined level. A plunger head is partially disposed in the chamber and is connected to a surface the position of which changes with the water level in the water bottle. The position of the plunger head thus moves as the water level in the water bottle changes, displacing bacteriostat into the water tray. In another embodiment, a method for dispensing bacteriostat into a humidifier is disclosed. According to this method, an amount of bacteriostat proportional to the amount of water discharged from a water bottle into a water tray in a humidifier is dispensed into the water tray at substantially the same time as the water is discharged.

    • A humidifier bottle assembly and a method of dispensing water from humidifier bottles are provided. The humidifier bottle assembly includes a first and a second humidifier bottle adapted to hold water and a humidifier bottle receptacle adapted to receive the first and second bottles. In one embodiment, the receptacle includes a device adapted to determine which of the first and second humidifier bottles contains more water. The device is operable to dispense water from the humidifier bottle containing more water. In an exemplary embodiment, the device comprises a pivot mechanism configured to raise one of the first and second bottles and lower the other of the first and second bottles within the receptacle, so as to activate a dispensing plunger and stopper, thus dispensing water from the bottle containing more water. In another embodiment, each bottle includes a dispensing mechanism adapted to dispense water from the bottle into a reservoir. A pivot member is provided about which the bottles pivot, and at least one biasing member is adapted to position the bottles in a given angular position in response to the amount of water contained in the bottles, such that the dispensing mechanisms of the first and second bottles are alternately positioned below the water level of the water in the reservoir.

    • A humidifier with a plurality of wettable wicks is disclosed. According to one aspect of the present invention, the humidifier includes a first wettable wick adapted to humidify an air stream and a first tray for holding water. The first tray is located in a position adapted to wet the first wick by capillary action. The humidifier includes a second wettable wick adapted to humidify the air stream and a second tray for holding water. The second tray is located in a position adapted to wet the second wick by capillary action and adapted to receive water from the first tray. A channel connects the two trays and transfers water from the first tray to the second tray when the water level in the first tray reaches a predetermined level. The use of the channel instead of a tube reduces water noise and the chances for vapor lock.

    • A humidifier is disclosed having operation, speed, and humidity control for the distribution of humidified air. The humidifier contains a multiplicity of air moving devices, e.g., fans, to enable large quantities of humidified air to be distributed in an area or conversely, only a small amount of humidified air to be distributed in the area in order to maintain the humidity level already achieved. The humidifier requires only the power necessary to achieve or maintain the level desired without excess use of power. At least one operating control is used to selectively operate one or all of the air moving devices, and at least one speed control is also preferably used with the operating control for selectively increasing or decreasing the speed of one or all of the air moving devices. Along with the operating control and speed control, a humidity control may pre-select humidity between a predetermined minimum and maximum. Furthermore, the level of fan noise may be substantially reduced when the number of air moving devices are reduced and/or decreased in speed.

    • A humidifier bottle assembly and a method for operating a humidifier are presented. The humidifier bottle assembly includes a humidifier bottle adapted to hold water and a humidifier bottle receptacle adapted to receive the humidifier bottle. The receptacle includes a pivot point about which the bottle pivots and a biasing member adapted to situate the bottle in a given angular position in response to the amount of water contained in the bottle. In particular embodiments, the biasing member causes the bottle to assume the given angular position within the receptacle when the bottle is empty, and further, the biasing member is adapted such that the bottle pivots from the given angular position within the receptacle when the bottle contains water. The amount of angular displacement of the bottle from the given angular position is a function of the amount of water present within the bottle, and thus, may be used to communicate the amount of water contained in the bottle.
