    • A humidifier with an integrated bacteriostat dispenser is disclosed. In one embodiment, a hand-operated bacteriostat pump is mounted on the humidifier housing and dispenses a predetermined amount of bacteriostat into the water tray of the humidifier when operated upon. In another embodiment, the bacteriostat automatically dispenses an amount of bacteriostat appropriate for the amount of water discharged from a water bottle into the water tray. In this embodiment, a chamber is defined for holding bacteriostat. A regulator keeps the amount of bacteriostat in the chamber at a predetermined level. A plunger head is partially disposed in the chamber and is connected to a surface the position of which changes with the water level in the water bottle. The position of the plunger head thus moves as the water level in the water bottle changes, displacing bacteriostat into the water tray. In another embodiment, a method for dispensing bacteriostat into a humidifier is disclosed. According to this method, an amount of bacteriostat proportional to the amount of water discharged from a water bottle into a water tray in a humidifier is dispensed into the water tray at substantially the same time as the water is discharged.

    • A portable hand held vacuum cleaner is disclosed as having a housing with a handle to lift and operate the vacuum cleaner, and a nozzle/debris container releasably locked to the housing. The housing contains a motor driven blower that draws air and debris (wet or dry) into the nozzle/debris container for depositing the debris therein, while allowing air to be exhausted through the blower and then through the housing to atmosphere. The blower is constructed with first and second jointly rotatable elements having a series of circumferentially spaced blower exhaust passageways and a transversely extending blower passageway adjacent the nozzle/debris container, for increased efficiency. A combined filter and seal is positioned in sealing engagement between the housing and the nozzle/debris container while affording filtering of debris from air between the nozzle/debris container and the blower in the housing. The housing is also capable of accommodating different multiple combinations of batteries with the motor and the size of the blower being increased to accommodate the increase in the number of batteries in the housing. For wet vacuuming, a squeegee with a wiper blade is available. Also, a one-piece push button facilitates operation and releasable locking/unlocking engagement of the housing relative to the nozzle/debris container.

    • The present invention provides a holder for storing accessories on a wet/dry vacuum. The holder securely attaches to the vacuum and readily detaches therefrom. The detachable holder may be detached with the accessories. While an operator dumps debris out of the drum of the vacuum, detaching the holder prevents the accessories from being inadvertently spilled out of or discarded from the holder. The detachable accessory holder fully secures to a bracket attached to the vacuum. The secure attachment prevents the holder from falling off or tipping on the vacuum. To attach the holder to the bracket and vacuum, grooves on the holder are set on to an axle of the vacuum. As the holder is pivoted about the axle, tabs and a latch on the holder engage slots and a step on the bracket. To remove the holder, the operator presses on the latch and lifts the holder from the bracket and the appliance.

    • Various configurations of discharge valves for humidifier water containers are disclosed herein. Among other things, the present invention provides simple and economical discharge valves that may be constructed in one piece using an elastic material such as silicone rubber. One configuration includes a valve body and stopper with an elastic rib integrally formed with the valve body and the stopper having adequate length to maintain the stopper in a closed position absent external forces. Another configuration uses a flexible barrier is integrally formed with a valve body. The barrier has a slit through its thickness, and is sufficiently resilient to prevent liquid flow through the slit under the weight of water inside the container. In accordance with other aspects of the invention, the valve has a flexible member defining a base and a generally cylindrical sidewall that has at least one opening therethrough. When the base is deformed, such as by a plunger extending from a humidifier cabinet, the sidewall is pulled away from the humidifier bottle collar so as to allow fluid flow through the opening. A further valve configuration includes a flexible member attached to the container or to a cap that attaches to the container. A stopper extends through a water outlet in a sealing relationship and is positioned to be displaced from the outlet when the container is received in a humidifier mechanism.
