    • Provided are a spectrophotometer using a xenon flash lamp and which can compare with data stored in the past, and a method for determining the performance of the spectrophotometer. In normal times, spectroscopic analysis is performed by employing a bundle of light rays emitted from the xenon flash lamp, spectrally separating the bundle of light rays into arbitrarily-defined wavelengths with a spectroscope through a concave mirror, and detecting the bundle of light rays having passed through a sample with a photodetector. When the performance is to be determined, a low-pressure mercury lamp is arranged in a path of the bundle of light rays between the xenon flash lamp and the spectroscope, a light-shield plate which constitutes a shutter mechanism is operated to shield the light and allow the light to pass through, and the intensity of the light is detected, to thereby determine the “wavelength accuracy” or the “resolution” by employing the bright-line spectrum of the low-pressure mercury lamp. Thus, spectroscopic analysis can be performed while allowing to compare with data stored in the past to be made.

    • A signal transmission apparatus of the invention comprises: a correlator 12 for shaping a spectrum of a signal; and a precoder 12 disposed on a previous stage of the correlator and including an adder which subtracts an output signal of a feedback filter from an input signal, a modulo arithmetic unit which inputs an output signal of the adder and executes modulo arithmetic operation, and the feedback filter which inputs an output signal of the modulo arithmetic unit and is provided with a transfer function obtained by subtracting 1 from a transfer function of the correlator. The correlator may be IIR filter means having a desired notch characteristic. By disposing a correlator which can freely shape a transmission signal spectrum containing a deep notch and suppress only a specified band on a receiving side, the suppression of an external noise can also be realized.

    • A control system for a vehicle with an automatic transmission adapted to prohibit the upshifting from a second shift stage to a third shift stage upon generation of a slipping of driven wheels. When an accelerator pedal is depressed to increase the throttle opening degree TH in order to permit the vehicle to be started to travel on an icy surface and the like having a lower road surface friction coefficient, the vehicle speed V detected based on the number of rotations of an output shaft of an automatic transmission is rapidly increased due to the generation of a slipping, whereby the upshifting from the second shift stage to the third shift stage is prohibited. A vehicle speed generated on a usual flat road is previously stored, and a presumed vehicle speed VYS is calculated from such vehicle speed and a time elapsed after the generation of the slipping. When the detected vehicle speed V becomes equal to or less than the presumed vehicle speed VYS, it is determined that the gripping between the driven wheels and a road surface has been restored, and the prohibition of the upshifting is canceled. Thus, it is possible to properly perform the canceling of the prohibition of the upshifting.
