    • A massage chair of the present invention includes an electric reclining mechanism for moving a backrest into different sloping positions, left and right holding mechanisms for respectively holding user's left and right forearms, and a controller for controlling operations of the mechanisms. The controller separately controls operations of the electric reclining mechanism and the left holding mechanism as well as operations of the electric reclining mechanism and the right holding mechanism. When controlling the former operations, the controller controls (A) allow the left holding mechanism to hold the left forearm, (B) allow the electric reclining mechanism to recline the backrest to any of the different sloping positions, (C) allow the electric reclining mechanism to raise the backrest to any of the different sloping positions, and (D) allow the left holding mechanism to release the left forearm. Similarly, the controller controls the latter operations.

    • In a swash-plate type rotary compression, a pair of cylinder blocks are formed of an aluminum alloy containing 16 to 20 weight % silicon. A ring made of a synthetic resin having wear resistance and slidability is fitted in a ring groove formed in a sliding surface of each of pistons which is brought into sliding contact with the corresponding cylinder bore, or a coating layer formed of a ferrous metal is provided on the above sliding surface. A drive shaft is fitted in a central bore in each of the cylinder blocks such that radial load exerted by the drive shaft is directly borne by an inner peripheral surface of the central bore, and an oil passageway supplies lubricating oil to a clearance between an outer peripheral surface of the drive shaft and the inner peripheral surface of the central bore.

    • In an improved swash plate type compressor in which a first end block, holding a first valve plate against one end of the cylinder block, defines a first input plenum and an output plenum with input and output valve means for a first set of cylinder chambers, a partition plate is secured between the other end of the cylinder block and a second end block and holds a second valve plate against that end of the cylinder block, defining for a second set of cylinder chambers a second input plenum with input valve means and an output chamber with an output valve means. The second end block defines inlet and outlet buffering chambers to which an inlet and an outlet open. The cylinder block is formed with an input transfer passage communicated at its ends to the first and second input plenums. The partition plate is formed with an output transfer aperture for the output chamber, communicating it to the outlet buffering chamber. Also, a means communicates from the inlet buffering chamber to the input transfer passage. Thereby, input and output pulsations are well attenuated.
