摘要： A liquid crystal display has a first substrate formed with a picture character pixel electrode for displaying a picture character represented by a fixed pattern, a second substrate formed with a common electrode opposite to the picture character pixel electrode, and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first substrate and the second substrate. The picture character pixel electrode is formed on an interlayer insulating film, and is connected to a picture character signal electrode formed below the interlayer insulating film through a plurality of contact holes formed through the interlayer insulating film.

摘要： A difference in potential between a common power supply voltage and a data signal voltage required for driving an active-type liquid crystal display device is used, thereby making it possible to display a pictogram without additionally input a new signal to an opposite side. Moreover, a gray scale of a data signal is adjusted, thereby reducing a direct-current component in pictogram driving. A pictogram electrode in a pictogram display area is driven by a part of extra output terminals of a data driver for driving a moving image display area. With this, in a liquid crystal display device using thin-film transistors (TFTs) with a common substrate being an electrode on its entire surface, a simple structure including a moving image area and a pictogram display area is provided.

摘要： The liquid crystal display device comprises a liquid crystal cell with liquid crystals sealed thereinbetween, sandwiched between two transparent substrates having an electrode on each of the inner surfaces thereof facing each other, an absorption-type polarizing film disposed on the visible side of the liquid crystal cell, a reflection-type polarizing film disposed on the side of the liquid crystal cell, opposite from the visible side. The absorption-type polarizing film is a polarizing sheet absorbing a light linearly polarized in the direction orthogonal to the transmission axis thereof while the reflection-type polarizing film is a polarizing sheet reflecting a light linearly polarized in the direction orthogonal to the transmission axis thereof. A light reflection film or a color filter may preferably be disposed under the reflection-type polarizing film. Further, a light diffusing layer or a light diffusing film may preferably be disposed on the visible side of the absorption-type polarizing film.

摘要： A liquid crystal display device having a color filter comprises a liquid crystal shutter device, at least one color filter layer formed on one surface of the liquid crystal shutter device, and at least one diffusion preventing layer for protecting the color filter layer. The color filter layer is prepared by a photolithographic process comprising the steps of forming a layer being colored of gelatin and the like on one surface of the liquid crystal shutter device, coating a photoresist layer thereon, while illuminating the liquid crystal shutter device by white light from the other surface thereof, applying a voltage to the selected opposed surface thereof, applying a voltage to the selected opposed electrode groups to form a latent image in alignment with the electrode groups by a photochemical action, developing the latent image to form a photomask, and while using this mask as a guide, coloring the layer being colored.

摘要： An "active matrix" type of liquid crystal matrix display panel, in which diodes are employed as switching elements coupled to each liquid crystal display element, photo-sensing elements such as photo-diodes are formed upon the display panel to enable data input to the panel by variation of the electrical characteristics of the photo-sensing elements by selectively varying the level of light incident thereon. The photo-sensing elements, when composed of photo-diodes, can be formed during the same manufacturing process and in the same manufacturing steps as those in which the diode switching elements are formed, so that no appreciable increase in manufacturing cost is entailed by adding such a data input function.
