    • A backlight unit is provided. The backlight unit includes an LED; an LED driving unit which drives the LED in accordance with a switching operation of a transistor; and a control unit which adds an additional signal to an output current of the LED to obtain a combined current, compares the combined current with the reference current, and controls the switching operation of the transistor based on the results of the comparison, wherein the additional signal is a current signal whose level increases over time in each period and is then reset to a predefined value in each period in accordance with an operation cycle of the transistor.

    • A luminescence driving apparatus, a display apparatus, and a driving method thereof are provided. The luminescence driving apparatus includes: a driving circuit which is connected to a light-emitting device and drives the light-emitting device according to a control pulse having a fluctuating amplitude; a controller which, if an internal current of the light-emitting device is less than or equal to a threshold value, selects a position from among a plurality of different positions of the driving circuit based on the amplitude of the control pulse, senses a voltage at the selected position and determines whether a short-circuit has occurred between the light-emitting device and the driving circuit using a level of the sensed voltage; and a protector which if it is determined that the short-circuit has occurred, performs a protection operation with respect to the light-emitting device.

    • A display apparatus and a control method thereof are disclosed. The display apparatus includes a signal processor which processes a video signal; a display which displays an image based on the video signal processed by the signal processor, a light source providing light for displaying the image; and a driving circuit which drives the light source on the basis of a dimming signal having an on-section and an off-section for dimming the light source. The driving circuit includes a protection circuit for performing a protection operation as a result of an abnormal electric current flowing in the light source during the off-section. The display apparatus is protected when a short circuit occurs between the light source and the driving circuit, thereby enhancing the stability and reliability of the apparatus.

    • The prevent invention relates to a display apparatus having a display main body adapted to display a picture, a base part adapted to be mounted on an installation surface and supporting the display main body, and a stand part disposed between the base part and the display main body. A first hinge part is disposed between the display main body and the stand part to fold the stand part onto a rear of the display main body. A second hinge part is disposed between the stand part and the base part to rotate the base part between a supporting position where the base part is mounted in a substantially transverse direction with respect to the display main body and a folding position where the base part is mounted substantially parallel to a first end of the stand part. A locking assembly prevents and allows the base part from being and to be rotated between the supporting position and the folding position.

    • A liquid crystal display (LCD) is disclosed in which adjacent pixels having the same gray level are supplied with different magnitudes of data voltages, thereby increasing the viewing angle of the LCD. A voltage producing circuit produces two groups of gray voltages in which the magnitude of the gray voltages in the two groups are different for the same gray level. The two sets of gray voltages are delivered to the pixels by data drivers connected to left and right data lines. The pixels are arranged in matrix form and data lines are arranged along the columns. For each column, two data lines are assigned, one on the left and the other on the right. The left data lines are connected to one data driver and the right data lines are connected to another data driver. The pixels are connected so that if a pixel is connected to the left data line, then the row and column adjacent pixels are connected to the right data line. Because the adjacent pixels are supplied with different data voltages corresponding to the same gray level, the viewing angle and characteristics of the liquid crystal display are improved.
