摘要： Disclosed herein is a washing machine with drying function. A heater is mounted in a tub for heating wash water or air in the tub. A circulating channel is connected to the tub for guiding air heated by the heater to the outside of the tub and then supplying the air into a drum such that the laundry in the drum is dried. Consequently, the structure of the washing machine with drying function is simplified, the manufacturing costs of the washing machine with drying function are reduced, and noise generated from the washing machine with drying function is minimized.

The method includes an acceleration step for accelerating, to a predetermined RPM, a motor adapted to rotate the wash tub, a constant-speed step for maintaining the motor at the predetermined RPM when an RPM of the motor reaches the predetermined RPM in accordance with the acceleration step, a deceleration step for turning off the motor to decelerate the motor, following the constant-speed step, and a clothes amount determination step for determining the amount of the clothes by use of equations of motion respectively established in the acceleration, constant-speed, and deceleration steps.

A condensing duct and a drying duct are connected to a tub to circulate air in the tub. Between the drying duct and the condensing duct is disposed a drying fan. To the condensing duct is attached air cooling device for condensing air in the condensing duct by means of cool air. In the drying duct is mounted a drying heater for heating air in the drying duct to change the air into hot wind. During the drying operation of the washing machine, the air passing through the condensing duct is condensed by air, which is an unlimited resource. Consequently, consumption of energy and resources is minimized during the drying operation of the washing machine.

The clutch device comprises a washing shaft for transmitting a rotating force to a pulsator, a dewatering shaft disposed along the outer circumference of the washing shaft in a coaxial fashion for transmitting the rotating force to a washing tub, and a spiral spring, having one end fixedly connected to the washing shaft and the other end fixedly connected to the dewatering shaft, for transmitting the rotating force from the washing shaft to the dewatering shaft when the spiral spring comes into tight contact with the washing shaft or the dewatering shaft as the washing shaft is rotated. Consequently, the present invention has the effect of simplifying the overall structure of the clutch device. The clutch device further comprises a friction member attached to the washing shaft or the dewatering shaft for generating a frictional force when the spiral spring is extended or compressed. Consequently, the present invention has the effect of decreasing wear of the washing shaft and dewatering shaft, with which the spiral spring is in tight contact, and of improving efficiency of rotating force transmission.
